Wideband o2 Sensor install

I have a 91 z28 350 tpi and I've been told I need to invest in a wideband o2 sensor for future tuning. Im just unsure of how to install . Do I just wire it in place of my stock o2 and wire in the heated element into the igniion circuit and the ecm will recognize it ? Or is there more to it

No.... buy a gauge with sensor. Install the gauge and wire the sensor heater via a time relay or an egt switch. Might even use tge oem switching valve wiring. Use the one that switches air from headers to cat con. This way the sensor heater wont heat when the exhaust is cold and full of moisture. Thermal shocks kills wbo2s. With the thing working only with running engine it will live for a long time.

Yes you need a separate gauge and wire circuit for the WB. The ECM won't recognize a WB O2. Should be a package deal when you buy the gauge w/sensor. I recommend using the instructions that come with it.

Re: Wideband o2 Sensor install

None of the aftermarket come wired or instructed like I said. Now wonder why oem wbo2s are good for 100.000 miles and these aftermarkets crap out a lot using the exact same sensors. It's the thermal shock that wills them. The heater is not to warm up the sensor but to maintain a steady operating temp. That's why you don't want it too close to the collector.

Ok I ordered a Innovate Motorsports 3918 MTX Series MTX-L Plus Wideband Gauge with o2 sensor. Looks like I can use an output on the sensor for the ecm and still use the gauge but I might have to wait til I get it to read the directions

I really don't know if it will make a difference in your tune but the NB is much more accurate in that region of the A/F curve than a WB. But I have to say it may not make any difference though many ECM programs do count the cycles of the NB output between high and lows of the region on the curve.

But what the heck you can always go back to NB if needed.

Re: Wideband o2 Sensor install

I recently installed the AEM WB and have it connected to my ECM so that I can view the A/F ratio through TunerPro. It works perfect. I welded a bung on the ypipe where the cat(s) would normally go.
