Non Thirdgen, Non Automotive, Floor Jack Problem

The jack is a 3.5 Ton, about 3 years old. The problem is after jacking up something I can hear it little by little coming back down. Is that because of the pump(seal) , low on fluid or soemthing else? thanks

have you ever left the jack in your garage during the winter?? not a good idea at all as it can destroy the seals and make your jack useless

I keep all my jacks in the garage in the winter. I am not going to carry that 50lbs jack up and down stairs. i have 3 little 2 tons that are almost older then me and they work fine.

check the fluid level, but i'll bet it because of the cold. i had a hein-warner 2 ton jack, professional quality, that wouldn't work in the cold while my 65 dollar auto zone special always works.

If it is coming down it is probably the seals. Hay ede I am having to have an hein-warner rebuilt right now it will jack up about 3/4 and then come right back down it is leaking from the pump seal. Man parts for those things are expencive.

May just need to bleed it...some have a plug to crack, some you open the fill plug on. Bleed instructions should be on the jack.

Might also be a good idea to get some hydraulic fluid incase it leaks out.

We had a jack like that... it was really old, we tried bleeding it, didn't work- so we bought a new one. It's been in the cold garage for the past 4 years, and still works like a charm.

Mine's been outside in the yard for 3 years, and it still works great.

I have a small floor jack and a couple of bottle jacks that have resided in my garage for about 15 years. They still work fine and we get some cold winters. Although I recently got a new 3 ton floor jack which I'm luggin back downstairs every time I'm finished using it.
