What is the ball hanging under my car

i have been removing things from my engine bay that i don’t need in order to clean things up and I noticed this ball hanging under my driver side just behind the bumper. The ball has a thin hose coming from it and it runs to the intake manifold and a wire that goes to the harness. Do i need this or can I remove it ?? It’s right below the cruise control.

The vacuum ball is for the cruise control.

The "Orb of Power." Also for the HVAC door motors.

...And it weighs mere ounces, doesn't cost any power, but you will rue the day you removed it if this is a street car.

is there any point in having it if all my AC components have been removed and my cruise control has also been removed? The line going to the ball is pretty dry rotted and pinched, I could replace the line or just remove it all. What do you suggest?

"Also for the HVAC door motors."

And if you remove it, when accelerating up a hill, the heater doors will start switching from floor to default Defrost position due to lack of vacuum. That's why it's called a vacuum reservoir.

I tried that and it's false. I put the AC on max when I left work and held the car against the rev limiter and it didn't switch to defrost at all. 6000 rpm with my 4.8 LR4. Heating system is stock except I removed the vacuum ball, and I don't have the vacuum cruise either.

Wow, that's interesting. Sounds like you went to the extreme testing that scenario out.
I stand corrected.

My friends Grand Cherokee had a cracked reservoir and going up long grades, his did that. Must be a Jeep thing.

I have a LT4 Hot Cammed 87 TPI 350 Firebird that could not keep the blend doors actuated until I hooked up a brake vacuum canister and hooked the blend door vacuum hose up to the brake booster using a check valve from a random Dodge truck. Newer 2000s Dodge trucks store their vacuum in the brake booster for their a/c system. GM systems all default to defrost if they lose vacuum, actually I believe it was a goverment mandate back in the day that ALL cars and trucks did.
