New gas tank
New gas tank
Hello everyone I just put a new gas tank on my 92 Z28 which I got from 1A Auto which am not happy with because of the filler neck angle problem which these aftermarket tanks seem to have, But anyways I got the tank in and also install a new sending unit and pump and new fuel filter . When I started the car up it ran poorly I drove it to the store and put some more gas in it and it ran a little better but the next day I cranked it up and it ran really bad when you gave it gas it almost want to die and it made a popping sound but now the car won't crank up if it does it runs for about a couple seconds and dies , I know the pump is working because I can hear it prime up but its like its not getting fuel pressure at the fuel rail. So put on a new fuel pump rely and am in the middle of putting on a new fuel pressure regulator. So was wondering is there anything I over looked or didn't do right

You need to check fuel pressure, much better than blindly replacing parts.

Fuel pressure gauge is very inexpensive.
About $30 on Amazon or eBay.
The number one complaint folks have about the cheap testers is that they may leak around the threads where the gauge joins the hose, or where the hose joins the fuel rail. You can prevent leakage by using teflon tape on the threads when you make your connections.
I had never done a fuel pressure test before, and it went very smoothly when I did it last week with a $30 tool from Amazon.
If you don't feel like spending $30, you can probably borrow a similar tool at the local auto parts store through their loaner program.

Hey guys I think I figure out whats wrong with my Camaro but I would like your feedback . I think they sold me the wrong fuel pump the AC Delco pump I got is part no. EP386 which I think is for a TBI and I looked up the AC Delco part no. for a TPI and its EP241. Oyeah I did get a fuel pressure gauge and it was reading only about 18 to 20 PSI.

Re: New gas tank
It looks like the EP241 is for TPI,the pressure is way too low.
Change out the pump and go from there,if the pressure is still too low you should check to regulator.

Re: New gas tank
Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket fuel tank that is baffled to eliminate the starvation issues the stock tanks have?

Great,I know you are happy.
I have had to chase driveability problems due to the wrong or defective new part numerous times, this is even worse when it is a customers vehicle.

Re: New gas tank
Hey LT1/TA I know what you mean . I hate these aftermarket gas tanks there a pain in the butt to get in and out and the float lever on the new sending unit that reads the gas dose not work I even tested before installing it but once I put in the gas tank it won't read the gas level so some time down the road I got to pull it again to fine out why its not working but for now the car is running and sounds better then the day I got it.
