I’m trying to finish up restoration of my 89 TA and don’t want to destroy new weatherstripping. Has anybody done short drop windows on their fbody or know of a way or anything... seems to be very little information out there and I think we all have had this issue with our frameless windows.

For those of us (me) who have no clue what a "short drop window" is , would you please explain exactly what that term means ?

PS , this was a better question for the "Body" subforum rather than the "tech/ General engine" area , maybe a mod can move it there for you .....

 

 

I have seen this feature on a new Mustang vert and it's pretty slick. I have to slam my iroc door, or have the window cracked a tiny amount and then it closes nicely. I have wondered what it would take to add this, but I expect it to be a good chunk of work.

Ok , now I'm gonna show my age

Back in the 1970s I owned a 1960s vintage Lincoln convertible that would drop the two rear door windows a couple of inches when the power top was retracted . Well , usually , that is , at least twice that I recall the relays failed to lower the windows and CRUNCH !!! Two broken windows ! It only took me twice replacing the windows till I no longer trusted the mechanism to lower the windows so I would manually put them all the way down BEFORE I pushed the open button and I never bought another rear door window for it again .

Thank You again for bringing back the memory of my favorite convertible , broken windows notwithstanding .

 

Well... You'd have to have a switch on the latch to tell the whatever that the door is closed, so it can move the window back up. And you'd have to have a switch on the exterior door handle, or another on the door latch to tell the whatever that it should move the window down so you can open the door. Potentially this second switch could be the same switch as the switch you'd need on the inside handle, again to tell the whatever that it should move the window down so you can open the door.

So three switches added to each door, then you'd have to figure out the whatever to actually go between the switches and the window motor(s). That would probably be the easy part. Making the stock door latches work at all is a bit of a trick. Probably be easiest to adapt the parts from whatever other car that has that feature.

 

The new camaro,challenger and mustang all do it. I wonder if one of those systems would work.
