My first Camaro: 1983 Z28 from rust free Arizona. Let the fun begin. Has a 350 crate in it.

That's awesome! These cars are a ton of fun! Make sure you keep us updated with pics and info on any work you do to it. My '83 is a CrossFire Z, and a hardtop. I'll be starting a build thread for it as soon as my foot surgery heals enough to get back at it. Mine, unfortunately, is not rust free like the score you made with yours. Mine will take some work. That's a good looking car, what I can see of it

Always nice to find an older rust free car especially with these unibodies. Mine was rust free when I bought it in 1999. There's not much left of the original car now.

Re: New to me - 1983 Z

Haven't done much to her besides pull the heads off. I'm dropping the oil pan with it in the car to replace it.
The engine looks fresh inside, pistons read bored .040 over.

I want the Vortec heads and intake so am shopping around. I need some headers and a 3 " exhaust. It looks like the Magnaflow kit is a nice choice, but I can't figure out a decent header option with the 3" output without breaking the bank. Prefer stainless....any great option for me guys?!

I did buy a used T5 setup too and plan to swap that in. Guy said it was fine, no issue. I need to look into cracking that open and what to inspect before installing it. Is that as easy as everyone makes it out to be? I read the front of the case is the weak point but mine looks solid.

I have an interior but it's ratty, will deal with that later.

The hood- it has the cowl induction which is cool but I like the stock iroc look with functional louvers. Will it fit with my carb'd 350 with vortec intake? The air cleaner isn't too big. Thanks for feedback. I didn't want to spend too much on this but do appreciate performance and would like to do the "right" thing with buying the parts. Example, I could buy used vortec heads for $150 with 137k miles on them or go rebuilt for $500. I am going the $500 route.....I'm not going the $1k route for aftermarket aluminum heads etc...you get my point. I would love a stainless exhaust tho

One last questions, my car originally had a cat on it, no longer tho. Looks like a 2.5" Y pipe was welded up. What do I need to consider when buying a cat back exhaust? Will the section of pipe the cat was in need to be retrofitted and where would that be, just after the headers if the cat existed? Or, if I buy a Y pipe/header combo (3") will it bolt right up to the Magnaflow cat back?
