Timing question
I have an 84, Camaro z28 with a 305 and I can't figure out how to time it properly, I've heard your suppose to unplug something to make the idle go down so it can be properly timed but what am I suppose to unplug.

I believe you disconnect the flat 4 icm connector. I assume your talking about ccc.

Same as any other motor with a distributor you can twiddle.
You adjust it to where it runs the best.
Tuned is correct of course, in that the "book" method involves disconnecting that connector, hooking up "light", looking up "spec" in "book", and comparing "mark" to "tab". However, "spec" is based on several things, of which most, if not ALL, probably don't apply to you. It is concerned with, among other thing, EMISSIONS, universal altitude compatibility, EMISSIONS, universal temperature range compatibility, EMISSIONS, CAFE, EMISSIONS, the fuel that was available in 1984, EMISSIONS, and a few other things. Oh, sorry, I forgot to mention, the ONE THING it's most concerned with, is EMISSIONS. So if that's the most important aspect of your car, and you can find 1984 fuel, then set your "timing" to the "spec" you find in "book".
However, NONE of the "most important" drivers that determine "spec", is HOW THE CAR RUNS.
Play around with all that other crap as much as you want. I'll be the guy in the other lane that puts you on the trailer because I pay attention to HOW THE CAR RUNS instead of all that.

I dont have to worry about emissions where I live my problem is that it idles fine but if you try to get on it, it only revs to like 2500-3000 rpm then seems like it hits a rev limiter (even thought I got it up higher than that when I first got it). I used a vacuum gage the first time because the distributor bolt was flat out loose so it moved the timing around. Before you couldnt even go over 20mph without it breaking up.

That is not related to "timing".
Leave that alone. All you will accomplish is, you'll have to go back and un-fornicate it when you find the REAL problem. Which is not "timing". Or I should say, all you have accomplished by messing with it already. Put it back where it was and leave it alone until you fix what's broke.
Sounds like fuel delivery to me. I'd suggest changing out the fuel filter first.
