1985 No spark no injector pulse. Need Help!
1985 No spark no injector pulse. Need Help!
I swapped an 85 TPI into my 1956 Chevy truck almost 20 years ago. I bought a harness and chip from chevythunder that changed it to a MAP sensor setup but I could still use the 85 coil in cap distributor. Deleted VATS as well. Ran great. Life happened and the truck sat for a few years. Went to try and start it but no joy. I figured I had some issues from sitting.
Replaced fuel pump, sending unit, fuel filter and injectors. Removed gas tank and had tank flushed out. Still no start but engine does crank
Replaced ignition coil and ignition control module. Cranks but no start.
Fuel pressure is not great. About 30 psi when cranking.
Noid light does not light up.
I put a spark checking tool between spark plug and plug wire. No spark.
All fuses appear to be good. Not sure what else to check or how to check it.
I could use a little help!
Thanks,

If you don't have spark, do you have power to the internal coil ? checked the pu coil for resistance and power output.
Have you checked for power on the injector leads ? checked the accessory power and grounds at the ecm ? 730 or 727 ecm ?

Thank you for your reply! Sorry it has taken so long to get back.
At the pick up coil:
Checked resistance = 825 ohms
Power output = .2
Resistance seems ok but output should be between .3 and 1.8 volts I believe.
So, I need a new pick up coil? Can I get those separate from the distributor?
Thanks again for the help. I'm sure I will have more questions.
(Just checked, gotta pull the distributor either way. I'm thinking a new distributor would be easier. Any recommendations on what brand to get?)

for the pu coil
As the engine is cranking, the AC voltage readings should fluctuate between .3 Volts and 1.8 Volts A/C

Cardone is hit or miss on some of its rebuild items.
always good things heard about acdelco but it maybe Mexico or Canada made parts.
I would check the distributor for play and maybe do a pu coil.
or here is a link to acdelco.

Thanks for the links. I forgot about the information on chevythunder.com. I will check these items tomorrow and report back.
I saw the ACDelco distributors on rock auto and figured they were better than the cardone items.
Thanks again. I really appreciate your help.

AC Delco. Delco-Remy. Remy. Always.
Re: 1985 No spark no injector pulse. Need Help!
I have checked everything I can electronically and get good readings except one. Went ahead and replaced the distributor.
I have a new coil, distributor, injectors, fuel pump. I’m getting fuel to fuel rail.
I just cranks but no spark no injector pulse.
One test I can’t figure out and I’ve tried this with four different coils. New and used. Different brands. When I check for resistance between the power lead and the connection at the underside of the coil where it contacts the rotor, I get OL. I thought this should show 6000 to 30,000 ohms. Lost on that one. Definitely getting power to the coil.
Could excessive heat in the cab mess up the ecu? It has been sitting outside for a while.
All the grounds look good. I haven’t found any breaks in the wires.
Have no idea what to check next.
Thanks for the help!

Re: 1985 No spark no injector pulse. Need Help!
I finally figured it out. After going through the trouble shooting for no injector pulse from Chevy thunder, I found that my problem was with the throttle position sensor. I replaced that and made sure the wiring at the plug was good. Started right up!
Thanks to everyone who helped me with this!
