Car Won't Idle

Before i garaged my car... it would never idle unless i got it warmed up. The other day i went to start my car to warm it up. I start it and tried warming it up and then tried to see if it would idle... It wouldnt. So i tried again. It wouldnt start back up. It sounded like it wanted to but it wouldnt. While trying to start it again it kinda sounded like a backfire... I heard something pop out of my exhaust pipes and it was a peice of the inside of my CAT. I looked under my car and my CAT is red hot... Over the last summer the car just recently had a new CAT put in.. It also puffs out black smoke and it ust recently started when it got cold. Not sure if its a coincedence or the cold is causing it.

I dont think it is the carb. Cause the cat turned red from the heat.... Like its backed up or something.. I dont think the carb would cause the CAT to turn red... At first i thought it was the carb making it not idle so i bought a new carb just didnt put it in yet.

Could the CAT be clogged from the car running to rich. Doesnt that what black smoke means?

if I was you I would cut the cat off, bolt the new carb on, also buy a higher flowing intake manifold. With doing all that you get more horse out of it.
