Lq4 Crankshaft Install
Hey guys, I'm on to installing my lq4 crankshaft. Can anyone help me out, I'm wondering what measurements need to be taken. I'm planning on using my old bearings which were good, would I be okay if I just torqued to spec without measuring clearances

If you are going to do that, then each bearing must go back to exactly where it came from.

Re: Lq4 Crankshaft Install
Bearings are REALLY cheap. These are the kinds of decisions that lead to poor results. Especially if you aren't familiar with the tools used to take the measurements. You say they are "good" but then ask what measurements need to be taken..... so in actuality you don't know if they are "good" or not. These are the kinds of conclusions, based on conjecture rather than science, that will result in a failure. Don't assume anything.
To properly measure the mains and rods, you need a bore gauge, and micrometers. The first question is - do you have the proper tools? If not - either get them or consider taking the entire job to a professional.

I had considered posting a very similar reply the other day when I first saw this thread , but then when I saw the user ID "Trollalot1" I changed my mind . Usually the question of whether to reuse bearing shells would be seen as an uninformed one , but with that user ID I wasn't sure if we were "having our chain pulled" as it were , so I figured best to just leave it alone ......
