I was jumping another car with my 84 Camaro sport coup (with 4 speed auto tranny) with a 305 4 BRL when suddenly my alternator belt broke and the choke light came on. Now the car will not kick down and is racing when idling. Will replacing the alternator belt turn off the choke light and make the car idle as it should like before? Your advice would be appreciated!

Yes it should. The choke heater circuit is powered from the alternator output so that it is only active when the engine is running. Replace the belt and it should work as it used to.

Is there a video out there that shows how to replace the alternator BELT? There are lots of videos on replacing the alternator but none on REPLACING the BELT itself. What do I need to disconnect too get the BELT on? The fan? If you guys know of a video on this please let me know. Thanks!

No video required. It's too easy. It would take longer to watch a video than it takes to just do it.

No, you don't have to do anything to the fan. Loosen the smog pump adjuster bolt and pivot bolt, allow smog pump to rotate toward engine, remove smog pump belt. Loose alt adjusting bolt and pivot bolt, allow alt to rotate toward engine, remove belt (you'll have to kinda work it over/around the fan). Installation it the reverse of removal.

Thanks for the advice! However, I removed the front bolts on the smog pump but it won't move. Am I supposed to remove/loosen the bolt to the right of the pump and the one underneath the pump as well?

Thanks again Sofaking. It was an easy fix to get the new alternator belt on once I figured out how to move the smog pump belt out of the way. My car now runs like it use to and the choke light turned off. Thanks for the advice and understanding that not all of us who own these old cars are master mechanics.
