Calculating for Torque Converter

I've been researching and asking engine builders for advice for the past few weeks and have gotten a wide range of stall needed for my car. Gonna ask y'all and average up the numbers? I'm used to a stick and not worrying about it sooooo here we go. This is gonna be a mostly street driven car and gonna slowly remove as much weight as I can just to get the best strip time against my buddies Fox body ferd

85' Z28 - 700r4 - 3.08(gonna change to 3.42 er 3.73 late next year) SBC350 - Comp274H - about 9.5:1CR gonna spray but probably only a 50-75 wet shot at the most till I swap to a T56... I'm guessing on a 2,500-2,800 stall atm but not sure at all :/

Also while checking summit for prices it's asking for input spline, I'm assuming our cars have the 30 spline?

2500 to 2800 sounds about right to me for your setup on a street driven car.

I have a 2500 on mine... cant tell the difference from stock during normal driving.. but when you punch it you definitely get the benefits.

I have a B&M Holeshot 3000 and a similar setup - 350 at the tires. You definitely need to make sure you have enough manifold and header to flow up higher in the RPM or your power band will be short.

Right now I have mid length headers and true dual 2.25 and glass packs. Performer EPS but want to pick up an RPM airgapfor more cowbell on the track if I find one for decent price

Re: Calculating for Torque Converter

Shot is gonna open it up couple hundred most likely.

more racey i’d like 3000-3200. More street some like tighter 2500-2800 probably good for you.

what heads are on it? If some type of stock head maybe 2800 is better. Any kind of ported or aftermarket head that flows bit more plus an rpm intake 3000-3200 would run hard

I'm installing some 601 casting 305HO heads I unshrouded out to 59cc and gasket matches intake and exhaust. It's not gonna be a high RPM twister with these heads I know. By next race season I'll be changing to some aluminum heads and the T56 for that

Re: Calculating for Torque Converter

yeah, I'd probably stick to 2800 tops... you'll probably end up with 2500 given the torque output of your engine. Often times these off-the-shelf converter stall speeds are rated behind a big block which can deliver a lot more torque. Lower engine torque will result in a lower stall speed. My 2500 actually flashes to about 2300-2350 rpm with my small block, but for me that's still perfect since I typically like to err on the side of driveability...
