Wear pattern main bearings

Hi Folks
Since a few months, i recognized some knocking/tickling noise on my 305, 88 Camaro. First thougt was that noise comming from the hydr. roller lifters. After adjusting them, i feel that this noise is comming out of the lower part of the block/oilpan. Yesterday i pulled the front axle down to get the oilpan down freely. First i checked the oilpump, but that looks fine. No wearings and no noise when spinning the pump. Then i pulled down the bearing half's of the crankshaft. And here are the results:

Nr. 2

Nr. 3/1

Nr. 1

Nr. 3/2

Nr. 4

Nr. 5
And now? New bearings or new engine?

Thanks for your advice

Re: Wear pattern main bearings

I'd be looking at the rods and flex plate.

I agree, those look nice. A cracked flex plate will mimic crank noise.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Wear pattern main bearings

Same here. I'm not seeing knocking noises there. A couple of them have a little debris damage, but nothing particularly severe.

Flexplate is fine. What about the Torque Converter?

Re: Wear pattern main bearings

As the others have mentioned, those bearings look ok. However, that 3rd picture down looks sub optimal. Is that an optical illusion or are there grooves in that bearing? Can your fingernail catch on any of them?

Flexplate is fine and Pushrods seems to. Could a defect hydr. roller lifter cause that kind of noise. Or the torque conv.?

Not good but wouldn't cause knocking.

Re: Wear pattern main bearings

Main bearings don't cause noise until they fail and seize the engine. Rod bearings however can cause noise. As long as there's no damage to the crank, put those mains back in and check all the rod bearings. For a street engine, they're fine.

Re: Wear pattern main bearings

I've seen worse crank bearings, also I agree with others the 3rd looks not great.

I've had a mech fuel pump sound like rod knock but 88 so prob in tank pump.
