What year did they start using VATS modules and "chipped "keys??

I have an 87 gta that has a chipped key. I just got it and am trying to get it to run. Engine turns over but sounds like it's not even trying to fire. Hence VATS VATS question. I have another earlier build 87 that has a normal key. Thanks for any help and advice .

Look at the ecm pin b6 if there is s blue wire or list the letters on the chip I can see if I have the binary to check if it has vats. Possibly someone put in a new column. Vats started in y body 86 f body late 88.

VATS disables the starter also. So unlikely to be your problem.

I’ve seen the passkey module produce less than expected lately and the enable relay still get grounded.
odd its a 87 with chip key but could be a column swap.

The VATS first appeared on the GTA for those built in December of 1987 for the 1988 model year. So early 1988 GTAs did not get the VATS. Records show 2/3s of 1988 GTAs got the VATS so you're likely to see it more than not on a 1988 GTA. Don't know of any that got it earlier. If you have the SPID/RPO sticker, let us know.

Very interesting, I looked at for example chip code AKXZ listed for 88 305 tpi automatic.
was released on 05/19/87 and has vats enabled.
