engine rpm failure

hello everyone I am french and I transcribe with google translate I have a 1987 GTA Pontiac 5l7 TPI L98 engine, here is my problem: when my engine is hot I cannot exceed 1500/2000 rpm when I drive my vehicle , but when my car is in neutral on park or on neutral it rises well in rpm up to 4000 rpm I change the temperature sensor under the plenum, the injection pressure regulator, flowmeter air mass, ignition advance control regulator, distributor, injectors and the fault is still present, an idea to help me out ... Thank you

Re: engine rpm failure

I wasn't able to pass 3000rpm for quite a while in drive, but in neutral I could slowly rev past 3000... it ended up being a blocked catalytic converter. Revs fine now. Perhaps disconnect your cat and go for a drive, see how it goes.

I removed all the inside of my catalytic converter so it doesn't come from that, but thanks for answering And since it's a th 700 auto gearbox, I can't put myself in neutral while driving

Re: engine rpm failure

Is the base ignition timing set correctly to 6° BTDC?

Can you report to us the fuel pressure measurments at idle and while driving the vehicle?

Re: engine rpm failure

hello, the ignition is ok 6° BTC (0.6.00) but for the fuel pressure I do not have the material to test, but my fuel pump is new, I have removed the main fuel supply pipe and running the pump without starting the engine there is a lot of pressure but, I will try to find a pressure gauge to control. But how much should the pressure be? . I have another question I know that we can control the system errors by putting an electric cable in the OBD socket which is under the dashboard but I do not know how to do it? In any case thank you for your it's nice

Re: engine rpm failure

You can pull codes by inserting a paperclip, or something similar... (conductive please...) into the top right two pins on the ALDL connector. (shorting them together.) Turn the ignition On, (don't start the motor) and then you can count the flashes of the check engine light to get the codes.

Re: engine rpm failure

I have a stupid question: when you change the injectors, you have to (code) reprogram or save a code for the injectors? Thank you

Re: engine rpm failure

If the fuel injector flow rating is different from the original, changes must be made to the ECM programming.

Re: engine rpm failure

Have you connected a pressure gauge and monitored fuel pressure yet? Standing pressure should be around 3 Bar.
