Lol, yep, I can't get this valve cover breather off and I don't want to ruin something else while trying. I've tried twisting and pulling. Anyone have this kind and can shed some light on how to remove it to replace it? Thanks! Oh, I'm trying not to take the valve cover off. :-)

Not familiar with how that's attached, but I'd be mighty tempted to take the valve cover off to find out.

Well, yes, but like I said, I'm trying not to because it's a pain to take off. With all the wiring and such, you have to really finagle it and I know it's gotta be something simple. I guess I'll just keep working on it.

By the time you figure it out, you could have had the valve cover off and back on 10 times. That's a trap that many amateurs get themselves into - it's typically much faster and more effective to just remove whatever is in your way (in this case the stuff blocking you from easily removing the valve cover, etc) than to wring your hands and gnash your teeth and post on the internet about it for a week.

Yeah agree with GD, I broke my AIR pipe taking off the valve cover cause it was in the way and bought the parts and kept moving. Learned to be more careful around it.

Looks like any regular push in breather. Grommet probably hardened from heat and wont let go. Pry up evenly on both sides and see if it pops off. Or a 5lb slide hammer attached to it would do the trick.

Try to soften the rubber with a heat gun or hair dryer.

I'd be concerned that forcing it out may cause the grommet to break apart and leave fragments on top the cylinder head.
Pull the cover off...

GD
agree. You’ll also break less stuff by removing what’s in your way.

Re: I can't get this motherf*ing thing off...

Probably the rubber grommet has turned to concrete. It's EFFFFED.

Use more force. Maybe one of those wide prybars from underneath, with a piece of plywood or something to protect the valve cover.

If it breaks, you already know you already needed a new one anyway; why worry?

Re: I can't get this motherf*ing thing off...

So it was a pull off type. Yes, I ended up taking the cover off. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Now, here's another question since I removed the valve cover. Is there a way of removing any very small debris (I don't think anything fell in) from where the valves sit?

Shop vac. If you want to get into some really small spaces, get a length of small diameter black rubber automotive vacuum hose and jam it into the end of the shop vac hose and seal it up with some duct tape.

i always vacuum around valve covers, intakes, etc. before taking them off as well so nothing falls in.
