Running weird…

So I just got my car back on the road after almost a year. Had to swap in another steering column. Anyway she sat for almost a year without being driven. It ran like a top before parking it. It always had a slightly high idle until it heated up, but otherwise ran great.

Drove her to work today and it’s idling very high, 2500ish and won’t kick down. But while idling high like that the rpm’s will suddenly drop to around 500 for just a second, it will stumble a little then go back to 2500. I can also feel it do that under mild acceleration. It dropped and died once at a stop sign. Started right back up but still ran wonky until I got to work.

305 TPI. Been a while since I had to tinker with this TPI. What should I check/clean?

Thanks!

I'd test the coil.

Not necessarily, they just tend to cause weird issue's similar to what you described when they start to go and are easy to check with a multimeter.

Re: Running weird…

Okay, so I went home for lunch and it ran the same on the way home. When I left home it was running pretty much normal when I noticed SES light on. Before I got back to work, it went off and the car went back to running goofy????

I’ll check the code tonight but that was weird..

not sure, but it can be googled. I used a chilton manual from the 80’s 🤷‍♂️

Re: Running weird…

Have you had any of the air intake off ? Might sound stupid but one day I had the air intake off to clean the maf and sat it on a shelf, some how between there and putting it back on the car I got a piece of cardboard in there and it kind of did exactly what you described, turned out it got jammed in one of the butterflies but it must've been blowing around in there, would get stuck, then get freed up then got jammed up good and was revving up to nearly 3000rpm, was a tough drive home!
