Re: Black column wire

Looks like it's for the cruise control to me. It comes out of the bottom of the column but for the life of me I cannot remember where it plugged in to...

I see some other posts agreeing with you on the cruise control. Funny that not one of them states where is is connected to. Lol

Re: Black column wire

Cruise takes 3 wires; set, accel/resume, & common. So, probably not that. The one for the cruise does look just about like that though.

The other side of the cruise connector was a little white thing in my car, looked alot like a card-edge connector on the end of regular wires. I'd expect that to use a similar mate.

VATS maybe?

I was actually hoping myself it was the horn ground as on the old column my horn wasn't working . When I disconnected the old column that wire seemed to just come out and I never got to see where it came from.

Re: Black column wire

Note: This is for an 83 and the info is from the '83 Factory Service Manual and 82-84 Factory Parts Book

I pulled the cruise control off my car a few years ago since the previous owner converted the Cross Fire Injection to Carb, and half the crap was disconnected.
But I save all the parts. I pulled the tub of parts out and rummaged around from the Cruise Control Transducer (in the engine compartment) there's is a harness of 4 wires (two plugs) that come off the unit, plus a vacuum line. This passes through the firewall. The Vacuum line goes to a "valve" or switch located on a bracket by the Brake Pedal. When depressed it disengages the cruise control. The wires from the transducer appear merge into one plug (female) that plugs into a male plug from the steering column.
Unfortunately, I cannot verify under my dash since it's currently taped up for paint prep!

Re: Black column wire

I forgot to post the picture of the actual harness from my parts tub.
There are three harnesses into the interior, all should hookup around the steering column. One goes to the brake light switch for sure, and the other pedal release switch (according to the GM Part Number in my book, 25509432.

Still can't find where the plug goes, but it should be close by.
I found the replacement turn signal switch (that contain the plug picture).. Not only does it control the CC but other stalk functions.

Replacement 1984 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 - Turn Signal Switch - with Cruise Control ARBC505402 (carparts.com)

Looking at a Corvette Harness (online) there appears to a "stack" plug this probably goes into.

1981-1982 Corvette Cruise Control Wiring Harness (zip-corvette.com)

But I can't verify with my dash wrapped up for paint prep purposes... Sorry I couldn't run this down completely and finally solve the mystery

Re: Black column wire

That black one with the 3 wires is for the cruise stalk. The 3-cond cable for it that comes out of the column plugs in there. You can see how it looks kinda like a card-edge conn down in there.

The pink/blk no doubt plugs into the fusebox to get power for the cruise. Not sure exactly where the green one goes; probably related to the brake light and/or clutch sw.
