SOLVED '89 305 TPI, SES Check engine light on, code scanner's won't communicate.

EDIT SOLVED, My MAF was disconnected! That's what happens when one neglects to do a proper "Visible Inspection: before digging in! EDIT

Regarding my 1989 IROC 305TPI LB9/ AT Ca. car...The SES/Check Engine light comes on moments after startup. Disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes did not cause the SES to reset. Engine seems to have an slight ignition misfire. I tried both my known good code scanners, and they would not communicate with the vehicle.

Coincidentally , OR NOT, this problem came up a few weeks after I installed 8 new Standard Motor Products injectors, overhauled the FI Pressure Regulator. Fuel pressure is at 38 PSI with the vacuum line disconnected(as it was before the work),

Rather than spend HOURS running tests, what part might I throw at it, to maybe get a fix? Ignition Control Module (ICM) ?

Thanks.

Re: '89 305 TPI, SES Check engine light on, code scanner's won't communicate.

Jumping A & B (top right and the one to it's left) I get code 12, 33, then 12. Somewhat extended cranking required to start. Which I recently Fixed, by installing a new Fuel Pump Relay (the old one tested bad and upon installing the new relay, extended crank was corrected).

Thanks.

DUH! The MAF sensor was disconnected! I broke the retainer clip, when I did the Injectors and did not fix it. Time for some Tyraps. I APOLIGIZE for wasting your time! Mike C

Re: SOLVED '89 305 TPI, SES Check engine light on, code scanner's won't communicate.

Runs good, SES light operates properly without staying on. Still will not communicate with my Actron scanner.

Time for me to do a Search and not waste anyone's time. Thanks.

Unless the scanner is VERY old and designed for the early GM protocols, it is unlikely to communicate. Most of those types in the generic (Actron) brands were basically glorified code readers only.

My Actron is maybe 15 years old and reads and resets codes, reads livestream data. My OTC2000 is 30+ years old. Neither one will communicate w/ my IROC Z.
