85 Iroc oil pressure switch

What’s up guys I have a 85 iroc with a 305 tpi motor. I was driving and the oil pressure gauge dropped to 0. So I pulled over and **** the car off I towed it home and today got around to changing the oil pressure switch. When I took it off I noticed it was cracked and leaking oil. I think that might be why the pressure droppped but I’m not sure. My question is what switch have you guys put in that fits? I went to autozone but the switch looked way too big. It looked like it would not clear the wires that run thru back there. Thanks for your guys help in advance.

Re: 85 Iroc oil pressure switch

Yes I’m changing the one with the single wire that is the one that was cracked that one goes to the gauge correct? Hopefully that was the cause of my oil pressure dropping.
Is this the one I need? There is multiple ones but it does not say dimensions.

Re: 85 Iroc oil pressure switch

It’s A 60 psi. Also how could I check the gauge inside? I also have a feeling the gauge might not be working right. I think the previous owner might have switched the the gauges because the temp gauge does not work or the gas one.

Re: 85 Iroc oil pressure switch

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the "T" version is just a less expensive version (which could also be less reliable)...

Re: 85 Iroc oil pressure switch

I’m going to go with the ps154. The one with the T looks a little bigger it could be I’m just seeing things. I think they carry the ps154 at oreily’s I’m going to check tomorrow.

Standard Motor Products "T" series is their cheaper, value line of parts.

Re: 85 Iroc oil pressure switch

My local oreily store had one. It fit perfect and oil pressure is better tomorrow I will take it for a drive and see what it does when it warms up.

Re: 85 Iroc oil pressure switch

When I put the 350 in (about 3-1/2 years ago), I hooked up a mechanical oil gauge which was always meant to be temporary.
So I already knew it had good oil pressure. I had an old sending unit from a '84 Z-28 parts-car, so I figured 'might as well use that instead of spend money on a new one, and installed it a few weeks ago. Well, either it was bad, or it was for a 80psi gauge (mine is a 60), because when I started the engine, the gauge went to 60 (to be expected), and as it warmed up began dropping (also expected), but then it continued to drop and was at zero with engine at full operating temperature and at 2,000 RPM. Again, I already know that this engine has good oil pressure as indicated on a mechanical gauge. So I got a new PS154 from RockAuto and the gauge never dropped below 35 at 1500 RPM...

Re: 85 Iroc oil pressure switch

Yea as soon as I got the new one installed and fired it up it went up. With the old one it would not go past 30 it would only drop when it was hot it went to 0 but I figured since it was cracked it was leaking. I’m going to look around for a new gauge cluster either way see what I can find to replace them.
