Gas tank strap issue
Just installed my new aftermarket gas tank today. Went in ok. Filler neck is lower in the fuel door hole than before. Only issue I have is that the fuel tank straps are not tight against the tank. The are tight on the tank where they bend to go up to the bolt and at the opposite end. Basically the corners are tight. Do I need to get the straps to lay against the tank for the length of it or is it ok this way. I will try to get a picture tomorrow when it is light out.
Thx

Re: Gas tank strap issue
They should be tight-ish. The flat sections of strap should be tight enough where they barely move. Obviously the corners will be a bit tighter. Did you replace all the rubber on the straps and on the top of the tank where it contacts the body? It took me a couple of try's to get it right. My fuel fill was 1.5 inches to far forward. I bent it back to get it centered.

Re: Gas tank strap issue
I placed a layer of rubber seal that is normally used for window flashing on the areas where the foam used to be.
the straps are definitely not tight in the flat sections.
I evern tried 1 old strap and 1 new one. Both are the same. Can’t figure it out.

I'd loosen stuff up and try and shift the tank around a little. It's may be just sitting in the wrong position. If your confident it's in the proper spot you could add an extra layer of rubber between the straps and the tank.
