oil blows out engine-fast? Help please
ok, yesturday i started the car to go to my girlfreinds, and noticed a very big puddle of oil on the ground, so i shut off the car, and looked under the oilpan and when i started it after about 3 seconds i heard the oil squirting out the engine, so i looked and the rest of my oil was under the car. i checked the filter and the gasket blew. well today i chaged it, put in fresh oil and no probs all day, til it sat for about an hour, went to take off and left all of my oil in the road. so what could be making it blow out the filter like that? has it ever happened to any of you guys before? I really need help with this one, you guys have always helped me out in the past, and any help is greatly appreciated.

.What kind of oil preasure were you running when you put the new filter and oil in the engine. Have you checked to see if there was another gasket on the filter mounting point. If it is double gasketed it will cause a leak at the filter point.

seeing as how it is not a tempo, i was afraid it might be a blockage in the oil passage, wich i definatly hope its not, so im still open for any ideas. Does anyone know if its possible it could be something wrong with the filter adapter, and bypass perhaps? I dont want to have to pull the engine or tear it apart if i dont have to, by the way thanx for the replys already.

You can block the bypass with no ill efects. If it is a blockage in the passage you can run some engine flush in it and se if that clears up your problem. If it is a blockage in one of the oil passages you will have extremely high oil preasure if it is past the sending unit if it is before the sending unit you will have low oil preasure. You need to find out what your oil preasure before you start to panic. also I woudn't advise letting it run for very long maybe just long enough to get the engine up to opperating temp. Hope this helps you.
If you use a cheep filter it could have come apart and cloged the filter adapter this would be a freek of nature but it is worth checking. How long has this oil leak problem been going on and can you think of anything that you might have done differently when it started. The more info you give the more we can try to help you.

heres a little more info, it started 2 days ago, i started it and it just spewed, replaced filter and oil yesturday, drove a couple times during the day, with no probs, after an hour drive i shut it down for an hour, and when i started it after about 30 seconds of running it squirted it all back out again at the filter. I have a high volume pump, and it usually runs around 60 at usual speeds for awhile, but yesturday it never quite reached 60 when i was driving, it stayed about a constant 50-55. I dont know if that helps, im online for the next couple hours and will check this thread frequently if ya need more info, and thanx

nope, no extra gaskets stuck on there, i always check that before putting a new filter on, besides the last filter was on there for the last 3 months with no probs.

both filters have been good and tight. I am gonna take off the adapter later and see if theres anything wrong with. But this is an odd prob and idont know anyone whos had this happen to them before. the main thing i think is odd is that it ran fine yesturday and didnt blow out the filter gasket until later on in the day. and the engine runs great, no odd noises or anything abnormal.

There is a nut that sets the stud that enters the oil filter. sometimes these work loose and will cause a leak at the filter.

I got it fixed earlier today, one of the bolts loosened up in the adapter and i guess thats what caused the filters to blow out. Dont know for sure if its fixed yet, but i figure if it doesnt do it again in the next 2 days, it should be fine, but thanx for the help guys
