Don't waste your money on fancy plugs. Regular AC Delco are just as good. Also platinums last longer but the spark isn't as good.

so when they advertise that a "multiple spark plug path" is actualy good for combustion in the chamber its a load of ???? what about their claims of increase in milage and quicker starts..more ???isnt that false advertising?

I just recently switched from bosch platinums to AC delcos. The bosch keep fouling out, I went thru a few sets. I have an MSD system.. it looked like the platinum was melting on the ceramic tip.

Havent had any problems with the AC plugs yet.

Did you ever wonder why top-fuel builders spend so much time indexing the spark plugs, so that the electrodes are in a precise position in the combustion chamber? ONE spark path in a consistent location is the best. If you want, you can complain to Bosch about their misleading claims. At least their product atually works, albiet worse than what they are trying to replace. If you really want to talk false advertising, check out that Pro-Long crap.

I know in aircraft piston engines, there are two plugs per cylinder (two ignitions systems per engine, too). Both plugs fire simultaneously (duh), but when checking each system, you turn one off and make sure the engine runs well on only one, but you do lose about 50-125 rpm by only having one plug fire rather than two (less complete fuel burn). Is this similar to the claim that these plugs make. But actually, the current will take the path of least resistance, so you only get the spark going from the electrode to one of the thingamajiggers (???? for lack of knowing the technical term). So you wouldn't really be getting multiple sparks, would you??? The only thing I could see would be if one fouled and then it would use the other.

P.S. I just put in Bosch Platinum and am worried about fouling....pray for me.

Ice,

That is correct. And did you ever notice how when you're testing the mags the RPMs always drop compared to the breaker point or CD ignition system? Wierd, isn't it?

The other differences to remember are that the Lycomings and Continentals are usually way over 500 inches in displacement, and have huge friggin' chambers and low compression heads. In other words, there is a LOT more space in the compressed combustion chamber in a 540-inch horizontal six than a 350-inch 8 cylinder 'V' engine. The compressed chamber volume in a V-8 can be less than 50cc, wheras the compressed chamber volume in a Lycoming 540 is over 100cc. Not to mention the complete lack of a quench area in the Lycoming, and static compression under 8:1 (how else could you run 90LL at those altitudes?). It's a little different game.

But still a good observation...

MSD Ignition bad with platinum plugs (or any precious metal plug)
It will mess everything up. Even the mistake, LS-1 Camaros come with a coil per cylinder and platinum plugs, just by changing the plugs and reseting the computer they run much better. Dont ask...

I would but, I'm at college right now and I left the car at home, unfortunately out of the hundreds of pics I've taken of my car I never took one like that. Right now I'll do my best to describe it for you. It shines just as bright as before. In fact, have you ever seen the lights where one of the lenses is dirty and the other isn't as dark. Well, mine were and with the niteshade on you can't tell, but when you turn the lights on you can tell which one is the dirtier one. Hope this helps for now. I'm going home next weekend hopefully I'll remember to take a pic.
