Hotter than what?
Hotter than a mechanical fan? According to this guy, yes.

If you have two fans that flow the same cfm (mechanical-electric) they will both cool the engine the same ammount. The electric will actually cool better at lower rpm then a mechanical fan due to the fact that electric fans put out a full ??? cfm at any rpm of the engien. If you find out how much your mechanical fan flows and then get a electric fan that matches or beats the flow rating your cooling system will be more effiecent.
Many people make the mistake and put an electric fan that is too small for their application and it causes the engine to get hot.

True....most people hack up an install on electric fans around here. If you get a fan meant for a 4 cyl car ect... it will not cool.
Get a good fan meant to cool your car for its purposes, wire it correctly with relays & proper guage wires, you will have no problems & will make a LITTLE more power freeing up that mechanical fan.
Good luck.

I forgot to mention the upside of mechanical fans.. the fan shroud causes the air to be pulled more evenly accross the radiator surface.
If electric fans don't work then why do most cars made now use electric fans

Look at all of GM's trucks...they all have belt driven fans and they work VERY well. If you stand next to one with the fan clutch engaged you can just feel massive amounts of air being pulled through. I do prefer electric fans though....less clutter under the hood.
im still debating is i should swap it or not...i was gonna order this one click here what yall think?
In stead of buying expencive fans go to the local junk yard and purchase a duel fan setup for a f-body (if this is for your f-body) if you feel like it replace the fan motors and put it on your car it is designed specificly for the f-body.

What's the horsepower hit on a mechanical fan? (If there is one at all.) I'm curious since on a VW engine it's around 9-16 hp, and that's almost 15-20% on a stock engine.
I prefer electrical fans since they run the same at any engine speed.
