i've never drove the car ..its in my garage........i just installed a vacuum modulator too....i didnt adjust it yet.......but..i dont know if that would have anything to do with it ..
just in drive...reverse.. i guess you could say .....with the car in gear.................... hood is shaking ......rattling sounds from things not tied down.........
Rob new vacuum hoses....runs excellent while ideling. ..one thing i'm thinking is .....
i have the vacuum advance hooked up so its on manifold vacuum.....if i pull the hose off ...the cars idle goes WAY down and the engine feels like theres a wicked cam....i hook it up and its fine.....the car runs like S$$t with it ported.......when i put the car in gear....does my manifold vacuum drop????? giving me less advance..........
??
oh yeah..... when i throw it in reverse ..it takes a second to engage... this may be a problem to ask the tranny guys....not sure

350T,
Since you're running a stock cam, that shouldn't be happening. You need to let the engine warm up completely, then set the curb idle to specs. Once everything is adjusted properly, you may find that the unsteady operation is happening at idle as well.
I'd also suggest changing the transmission oil and other fluids if the car has been just sitting in the garage for two years. I've got a '96 Impala with 4,000 miles that has had six oil changes already, just based on the time, not the mileage.

well i think its stock cam ..but..i'm not sure..it was advertised as a street/strip in the paper.....but..the person i bought it from bougt it at an action and said he had no idea.....
but.....i cranked my idle up to 1200...........threw it in gear..idled at like 500......
the idle in park and the idle in gear go hand in hand....soo
must be a carb problem huh?

***!! i'm hesitant to post on here. i'm asking such lame questions..but...since i raised the idle screw...do i have to re adjust the fuel mixture..
when i did the carb rebuild i started the car... adjusted idle speed so it was nice and smooth..(well as smooth as i could get it ) and then adjusted fuel mixture.....then i turned the idle speed down a bit..and then re adjusted fuel mixture.. and i kept repeating until i had the primaries almost closed..with a nice even idle....
is this the right way to do this..or. ..do i have to set the idle speed screw a certian amount of turns in..before i set the fuel mixture..
rob
sorry for the spelling ..i'm a little juiced up...................

You need to set the idle to a specific rpm, like around 700 in park. Then adjust the fuel mixture. If the idle speed changes after the fuel mixture adjustment, re-adjust the idle speed again. Your methods looks to me like it would yield the lowest idle possible--not good when you put it into gear.
