Sweet! Thanks! are you SURE thats the 1LE tank with the extra baffling? My current tank suks major goat ballz (gas runs away from the pickup during hard cornering and quick stops, and car dies if under 1/4 tank and stop short). Again, thanks to both of you guys.

I used that number to order my new tank. I have to get it down to .5 gallons and do a HARD turn to starve my car of fuel.

That's the same tank that's already in your car Scott_92RS. Don't waste your money if your current tank is not leaking or rusting through. If you don't believe me, though, go ahead and order it and when it comes in and you have your tank side-by-side with the new one, just shine the old flashlight inside there and find a difference.

Well, thats the thing. My current tank is leaking a little bit (might just be the filler neck, I dont know, yet. But, my car almot runs out of gas when I have like .5 gal and and I start to slow down, say from 70-55 on the freeway, at a slow pace. All I have to do it barely get on the brakes and the needle moves to the "E". Are thre any other tanks out there that are of higher quality than GMs tank?

Does anyone know of the real part number? There is one i would like to buy but the part number is 12509285 from the info i have. Is this it? I can not check now b/c its saturday and its not listed at gmpartsdirect. I would check with the dealer, but they are closed. Any help would be great. When i go to do my fuel pump swap i would not mind putting in a 1le tank either. It should bolt right up, correct? And the fuel pumps should be the same for replacement, right? Once i know what i am doing for sure i would double check all of the parts to make sure it would work out, i don't see why it wouldn't, but if anyone has done this, feel free to respond! Thanks again.

GM had a recall for leaky filler necks on 92s. See if yours can be fixed by the dealer for free.

While performing my search i came across that info about the recall. I believe his name was in a couple of those threads too! Plus, remember, this is a yr old thread. I would just like some info. If he has not fixed his leaking gas tank by now, i would have to say there is something wrong with him! Anyone have any info regarding my question? Thanks

Belive it or not, I JUST got around to fixing my crappy gas tank. My fuel pump went out, so I had to drop the tank anyway. The filler neck was cracked at the junction with the gas tank. I called a dealership a long time ago and asked if my car was included in the recall, and they said my VIN was not included in the recall. Just a little odd that I'm not included, yet I had the exact same problem.... Instead of getting a new tank, I got my old tank repaired. I would have liked to get a new tank, but I couldnt afford it at the time. I havent driven my friggin car in months because of the stupid fuel pump..... Between moving out, work, and the weather, I've only had a few days to work on it Hopefully we'll be able to start it up today .

Oh man, i though you were driving around for a year with a leaking gas tank when i first started to read your post! It is different when things come up though. It wasn't so bad replacing it right? Just time consuming the most i guess. If you have the right tools that is. Take it easy. So, does anyone have the part number for the real 1le tanks? Was there any difference between them and the 89-later tanks? I'll just have to call up the dealer tommorrow i guess. Thanks

Check out 1LE.net. There is some info on that site about the gas tank and related parts.

I was, lol. Every time I filled up with gas, my car would smell pretty bad of the fumes coming out of the crack. The leak was pretty bad. Over the year or so it had been leaking, the buildup of crud from dirt landing on the trail of gas running down my tank was NASTY. I had to take a wire brush, paint thinner, and Castrol Super Clean to get it ready to paint. It looks nice now though. I'll post a pic if I can find one.
