To Keep or Not to Keep.

I have been cursed with a problem that will never go away. Since the first day that I bought the car it has had a horrible bog on WOT when warmed up. I have tried everything from replacing the rubber parts of the fuel line (not return) to taking out the ventilator. I even rerouted the fuel line further away from the header so that I wouldn't boil the gas and get vapor lock. The problem is still to this day haunting me. After rerouting the fuel line the bog went away for a little while ( I know that it was a vapor lock problem) but now I think my fuel pump is going. Today I drove around for an hour and let the it warm up. I was giving it hell for about 30 minutes and it did fine. But then the temp reached about 215 (very high for this car) and the problem came back. I pulled over and opened the hood only to find that there was barely any fuel running through the fuel filter(clear)!!!
the filter lies horizontal and about 1/8 of it was filled. I know this had to be what was causing the bogging but what the hell is prevent the gas from pumping. Pinched line?? bad pump?? The pump is not to old but I got it from Auto Zone about a year and a half ago. Maybe its a piece of s**t. This problem has driven me crazy so much that I have recently been thinking of selling the car and finding something else. Someone rekindle the faith for me or help me figure this out!!

If you sell that car you will repeatedly kick youself in the *** just as I did when I sold my first iroc.If I were you I'd find the fuel stavation problem and enjoy!

I was thinking of an electric pump but what brand, kind, psi?? Is there a plate I can buy to go over the hole for the mechanical pump? Do I leave the rod in? What all would I need and how much (general)?

For a carb setup you can get by with 5 psi... any electric pump should give this
you can buy a fuel pump block off plate for the block... costs about $5.00 for a chrome one
for experimentation go get yourself a hard steel line and route it away from any parts that get hot (like valve covers, block and headers)... it doesn't have to be pretty... this is experimental remember.
If the bog doesn't go away then the problem is probably that you are sucking in too much hot air from under the hood and need to get a cool air charge to the carb... add some washers under the hood bolts to raise the hood about 1" and see if the additional cool air gets rid of the bog.

Thanks for the compliment and the help. I would probably run about 7 psi with a pressure regulator but I need to know what kind of pump. would it work with the fuel lines I have??

Again thanks, the dupont fleet number is 44490 for pepper grey metallic. by "bypass" I'm guessing you mean removing the mechanical pump and installing an electric one. What did you get?? All the details? How much did it help?

well...my dads nova had the sam eproblem kinda,it was running like crap all the time tho,not just at WOT.We thought it was the fuel pump,because the filter was almost empty like yours was,so we replaced it and did the same thing.We replaced the fuel pump,and the filter was full again,but the problem didnt go away.So we called a place down here in tucson that did the machine work on our engine,and they reccomended spraying carb cleaner in the air jets when you look at the carb,the 2 little holes you see when you look straight down into the carb in the front,because they could be dirty.That fixed the problem for a while.It turned out we had to rebuild the carb cuz it hadnt been treated right.But you might try replacing the fuel pump and doing the carbuerator cleaning thing i talked about...Sorry for such a long reply!!!!!

thanks for the reply. The carburetor is only a year old so I don't think its that. But I'll try spraying it.
