79 (?) Cobra

This car is supposed to be a 79 (it looks like the early 80s so it probably is) it is yellow and the kid things it is the fastest thing ever, its kinda beat up, and I'm pretty sure its an auto. I can't find anything about how fast they are. even if I don't beat him, I might be buying a second car (90 IROC-350-3.73s) and that would smoke him.

I doubt it's a Cobra, '79 isn't that when they changed to the Fox Body stangs right after the horrible Mustang II era. Cobras didn't return until '93.

Does it have a black plastic grill? Also, the interior ought to be ugly as hell, look for wood trim and white vinyl or red cloth... that would say it's earlier than '83 I believe... the '79 was the first year of the foxbody, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is in fact a '79. I don't know when the Cobra was re-introduced, but there were SVO Mustangs in that era I think... it will take the real mustang guys to clear this up though.

They had 302s in them I believe, but I don't see it being that fast. Unless it's the Turbo 4cyl, but I'm not sure when those first began.

The '79 Cobra is just a graphics package. They had turbo 4-bangers and had like 120HP or something like that. They might have been decent back in 1979, but any honda could beat one today.

In 1979 it was a graphic package and it was called the KING COBRA, pretty sure anyways.

I used to own a '79 LX Ghia, and have done a little bit of research into the early fox bodies...

They actually had Cobra's from '79 - '81.

You could get the Cobra in a 5.0 or turbo 2.3...hatchback only. They both came with special exhausts, the TRX suspension, and bigger wheels. To identify it as a real Cobra, look for color-keyed quarter window louvers, black grill, and black lower body panels. It will also have a large Cobra graphic on the doors. Also, look for a forward facing hood scoop. The panels on the dash are engine-turned. It also has a 3-spoke steering wheel. They were all pretty slow...high 16 - real low 17's in the 1/4.

The '79 - '84 all had the same stle frontend as my old '79:

I talked to his friend tonight, he said he has a v8, so it must be the 5.0, he has tach lights and all the stuff mounted every where. Now I'm pretty sure it is '79 5.0 cobra that is an auto, it is yellow with black.

Mine had the 3.3L inline 6 in it...let's just say...it would BARELY run. Best 1/4 mile time was a 20.3. If I knew as much then as I do now it would have ended up with a sprayed winsor in it instead of being sold off for $2500. The ghia package was crap...the only cool thing about it was the furry **** on the door panels.

I should hope u could. If not I will take your keys from you and personally drive it to the highest point...get out...push it over the cliff and do a rain dance to put out the fire that your car makes when it explodes on impact. :lala: <--- me doing rain dance
