Went from 3-0 to 4-1 tonight...
First the good news. I beat a 93-97 Z-28 today pretty bad. We raced from a roll about 25=35 mph and I took him by about 3 car lengths. He wanted to try again and had a similiar outcome. Not sure what was done to it, I saw he had exhaust tips, but that doesnt mean anything. I bet he doesnt see too many 3rd gens beating those cars!
Ok, I got my first loss. (Was going to happen sometime) Raced a friends Mustang. (Nothing on the line, just for fun) He got me by about 1 1/2 to 2 car lengths. Well, I guess I am now motivated to get some 3.73s and do something about that exhaust. What should I do first?

Good kill and sorry about the loss. I would do the gears first since it seems they will give the biggest improvement to you.
What kind of Mustang beat you? Was it a 5.0 or a newer one? It must have been pretty quick. Imagine if that Z28 you beat raced the Mustang. That would have been pathetic.

Yeah, it was a 85 or so. Had a built 5-speed with a 302 (carbed). Dont know much about it.
But I know gears and exhaust are next.

Those 5.0 stangs are easy cars to mod. My friend has a 88 LX with 4:11 gears, ported heads, long tube headers, x-pipe, no smog, aluminum drive shaft, Ford racing clutch, rebuilt performance tranny its a 5-speed, and MSD ignition. That thing whooped me with ease. I drove it and I have to admit that thing pulls hard as hell.

ANYWAY back on topic
All Dan's mustang has is a carb and intake, the rest is 100% stock. Ok and its got mufflers, don't know what exactly but its fairly loud. It even had a 7.5 rear end out of a 4 cyl car that the last owner put in since he blew something in the 8.8 and he had the 7.5 laying around from something. He put a 8.8 in this weekend, but Mike raced him with the 7.5 still in it. And he's a damn good driver, everyone around here knows it.
Once everything is what it needs to be on the camaro, you should be able to out power him though. But look out, you don't know what he's got in mind for that car and neither do I. He says he's not sure and probably not much, but I know him well enough to know what that means

At least I'm not dumb enough to try and tell people its fast. Nobody really makes fun of a slow car if the owner doesn't try to act like its fast. Its better than it was when I bought it, and will keep getting better as I can afford to make it that way. At least the low end is great, I go down the road sometimes at 900 RPMs in 4th gear (35 mph zone).

None taken. You've obviously either done a lot to the car, or its just in better running condition than mine, or both. I'm pushing 133,000 miles and burning oil on startup and WOT, and the tranny is a little funny. Plus we're at different tracks/elevations I'm sure.

Yeah, I rode with Danny the other night, he knows how to drive. I'm still learning. Also doesnt help to race from a roll with a 5-speed vs. an automatic!
