I thought 3000 GTs were fast???
I'm at a stop light...turns green and this 3000 GT (tuned exhaust is all I noticed) rolls by (it missed the light a little, so he never came to a complete stop)......I look at my friends(2 of them in the car at the time), look at his car, look at my friends again, and gun it. So I'm going atfter him, and he doesn't notice me until I'm at his rear bumper (that's when I heard him drop a gear and floor it). I'm at about 35 mph when we start, and we go all the to 95 mph, but he never gains any ground on me, and I never gained anything on him.....I also never got into overdrive; just stayed in drive.....
So what gives??? I know the VR-4's are pretty quick, but what about stock GT's??

the stock V6 GT though is only running I think about 220 hp and is good for about mid to low 15´s but still not the worst starting spot

you had the jump on him and he made up your jump and kept you from pulling away.
what that means is if you both would have went at the same time he would have beaten you.
not trying to be mean but you had the initial jump and didn't pull

I think the TT 3000gt's have more like 300hp and all wheel drive. i test drove one but did not buy one becasue of the price 7 yrs ago. They are really fast! especially out of the hole!!!!! I'm sure they are easy to make fast as the typhoon is, just adjust the waste gate for higher psi, larger injectors, and exhaust. However, any modification on the imports is very pricy. but yes they are really fast.
SOme of my easiest wins have come against NON-Turbo 3000GT's. The SL's are underpowered and overweight. I think those cars weigh around 3300 pounds and the V6 just doesn't have the TQ to get it moving quick enough. I've encountered quite a few and can always roll on the gas to get away from them. Off the line they are real slugs.
Stay away from VR4's and Stealth TT's though

i had a race like that with an older prelude. I was just cruising and he was like ten cars back. I saw him coming up really fast, so i waited until he was next to me and i punched it. We were even for a second and then i pulled ahead. He had the advantage but i still pulled on him so i won. Even if we had stayed even it still would have been my win. As for 3000GTs, base model has 212 hp, SL has 225, and VR-4s have between 275 and 315hp depending on the year. The newer the faster. All the models are at least 3200lbs. The newer the lighter. If the one you raced had flip up lights, then it was a 92-94, the slower of the bunch.

Well, he wasn't exactly grandmaing down the street either, but anyways.........the point is, I thought they were fast cars....I mean come on....a near stock 305 with 3 people in it vs. a 3000 GT with mods atleast done to the exhaust (he had stickers on his door, but I couldn't read them)....
He had the one with the headlights that look like there are 4 little fog lights (2 on each side).....It was like a white pearl if that helps?

it was a 95-97 then. They were pretty decent cars. It was stick i'm guessing and unless it said VR-4 or SL on the back it was a base model. Maybe he just coulddn't shift?

I have to put my 2cents in on this one. I was at E-town a couple of weeks ago and there was a kid in a 94 VR4 running in the 15's. He did not know how to drive. I was talking to him and his car was a real VR4 not just badged. It had the turbos. He said he didn't want to drop the clutch past 2,200 RPM. All wheel drive in that thing I am droping at least 4,000 or at least slipping at 4,000 RPM. I have raced some stock SL gt's and they are decent cars. The thing that has been bought up before is weight. You figure your cars are about the same in weight without the driver. He might just have a muffler on those cars since he would have to get a custom catback. My pizza guy has a SL and he can't get a bolt on exhaust because they dont make them only for the VR4's and they are over a grand for the exhaust. So you have 2 other people in the car lets say an extra 350 lbs. My 88 Camaro was 3600 even at the track with me in it. You said you were on it to catch up? If that is the case and he did not pull on you and you did not pull on him. Sorry to say it you would of lost if it was a sidebyside 35MPH race. His car had enough power to keep you from passing him after you were on it. If I am wrong, I'm wrong but I think I read the initial post right. With out the other 2 people in your car it might have been closer if you started even.
