Raced two cool guys in a GTP

No more than 2 miles down the road after racing that Prelude yesterday, two guys in a Red GTP pulled up beside me. We were going through Chester, so I was taking it kind of easy. Finally we get beside eachother at a stop light and they tell me "Hey this is Chester, you don't want to get yourself in trouble now" referring to the fact that the strip of Route 10 that goes through Chester is always full of cops. So we chat a little bit and head on down the road a couple miles until we're finally out of Chester. It was two older guys, so I didn't really expect them to want to race, but as soon as we hit the spot where the speed limit jumps up to 45 they floored it. Alright! I needed a decent car to race after riceboy earlier, so I downshift into 2nd and well...it wasn't much of a race after that. I pulled on them like they were going in reverse Finally when I shut down they get up beside me and both of them have these huge grins on their faces giving me a thumbs up and one of them hollers "Damn that bitch is fast!"

I can't wait to get back to the track. I've only been once since the 4.10's went in and it was 100 degrees, humid, and I was only running on 7 cylinders...13.0 @ 109

Yep, supercharged V6's I believe. I raced one in my convertible when it was running low 14's a few years ago and he gave me a good run.

Nice kill man, those GTPs can be fast, all you have to do is swap a pulley and you'll run something like a 14.0. They have 250hp stock.

If I am not mistaken if you go to www.clubgp.com that is the Grand Prix owners of America site. Check out quater mile times, people are running LOW 13s around 13.3etc with these mods:
'U-Bend' Replacement 160 degree Thermostat
3.0" SC Pulley 3.25" SC Pulley
3.4" SC Pulley Borla Exhaust
Dial Ur Boost Pulley
MAF Translator plus
MSP Cold Airbox Rockers
RT Cat
The Other Guys Headers
Transmission Cooler
this person ran a 13.2@104mph so these cars can be made very fast for little money.

before for you say "little money" check out the prices on those headers... just $800. I've been helped a friend build one up. he has ran a 13.93 at 99.xx mph. it should go faster but we haven't figured out why it does not yet. alot of fun can be had with a four door family car.

I thought GTPs were 240HP stock and GTX 250HP?

240 HP stock? I raced one and beat him. He blew a red light to get a lead and was 3 cars ahead when I went and I still pulled next to him with ease until he cut me off. I don't think they have 240.

there around 230-240...but the car is heavy and FWD... GMHTPM said that the new ones were supposed to get 280 to 300hp but it was GM said it would be closer to 250 because of quote" the torque limiting capacity of the 4t65e transaxle and attendant warrant concerns..." well its still a hot car as a hauler... i wouldnt say no to that car as a daily driver...

My friends GTP went 14.8 stock. And 14.3 (On a 80 degree day) with a smaller pulley and full exhaust. I wish I would have raced him before he put the smaller pulley on
