i was walking il walmart today when i saw a camaro performance magazine. went over, picked it up and started flipping through it. when i got to the centerfold i almost crapped my pants. there was an article on the 2002 SS ZL1 (yes, i didnt know they existed either!). they didnt say how many gm made, but this car is hot. LS6, 400 hp motor, T-56, 4.10's in the back, corvette Z06 rims, Z06 brakes, drop springs (1 in). they did go on to say this car could be ordered from the factory, so it wasnt just a one of a kind....but what a car......

ps. i can beat one in a STREET RACE, right???

Actually I'm pretty sure that is a 1 of 1. Its just a concept car, you can't order it from the factory. I have the same article, and I think the one guy wrote something like "They threw me the keys to the only ZL1" or something like that.

Hmm, concept car for one that is dead now. I think that proves they'll be back.

Geeze news travels slow around here

Don't quote me but I think a dealer (maybe in Texas) made a bunch of those cars- think of it as a modern day Yenko.

They are bad-***- too bad GM couldn't do this from the factory

If you bother to read MY post- it wasn't a production car but a dealer built car.

Yeah....kinda like the 302 Z/28 that was featured in M/T a while back.....dealer built. Pretty sweet car, but the blackout panel in the rear looks kinda tacky, since it only goes halfway up on the back.

The black-out panel is a retro look picked up from the '67&'68 Big Block Camaro's. I think it's great, not tacky, it's a part of camaro heritage. Although I'm mad Chevrolet doesn't have enough ***** to put a Big Block in the camaro to back up the black-outs.

But yea car looks awesome and probably goes like a banshee. I just wish they wouldn't have stopped making them, because now when I graduate I'm going to have to buy a new Mustang because it's the only original pony car left (Unless the GTO is as good as GM is making it out to be )

Later, Garrett

LOL, I know the origin of the blackout, I was just saying that it should go all the way up from the top of the bumper to the bottom of the spoiler. As is, it stops halfway up the tailights. As far as the lack of a factory Rat motor, that just goes back to the reluctance of GM to let any car tread on the Corvette's territory. And I hear ya as far as not being able to buy a brand-new F-body, but, oh well. Maybe later......

yea, its something about either GM made them as a test car... they just wanted to see what they could do...and yes, that could kill the new Cobra... seeing that the SS came within millaseconds behind the cobra in the autox and tied it in the 1/4... i think another 75hp would have that cobra walkin away with its tail between its legs... like the bitc-h car that it is.... that aint nothin.. go to supercars.net... look at that zl1... thats a beast!! 572bbc 700+hp... hold let me get a pic.... here u go... this is a beast...
572.0 cu in, 770.0 bhp @ 6900 rpm,683.0 ft lbs @ 5200 rpm

Actually, the new GTO wouldn't be a musclecar since the traditional definition of a musclecar boasts a live rear axle, while the new GTO would have an IRS. Nonetheless, the Holden Monaro is a slick car in it's own right, and I can't wait to see the new GTOs on the street. At least as long as Pontiac can refrain from putting 200 lbs. of ribbed body cladding on it.

Big Al- we were actaully refering to this car. While not built by GM but by a dealer
Think of it as a modern day Yenko.

Has a 400hp LS6
Z06 wheels/brakes
and quitre a few other distinctions.

One more- cause it's so pretty.
The 572 ZL1 was pretty neat but never had a prayer
of reaching production- unlike this ZL1 which could've been done comparitavely easily.

The company who makes those Camaros is about 5 minutes from my house, next to my father's warehouse. They also make the #3 Signiture cars....I think....I've seen alot of those Dale Camaros there as of late.

It actually pretty funny....all up and down the parkway in the business complex is nothing but burnout marks. They get cars from all over the world shipped to them, and do whatever it is that they do to them.

It cost an *** load of $$$$ though.

don't worry people camaro and firebird will return, they just need to restyle them. They would not have passed 2003 crash tests and they wanted to move the plant. But they can't build a new one till the old contract wears out, so they have to wait.

They need to make a return of the Dana camaros. In case you guys haven't heard about them, they were modified by Dana Chevrolet in South Gate California. They were similer to the COPO's and Yenko's in that they stuffed a built 427 between the fenderwells. They also dealer installed their own special hood and sprayed them a unique hue of orange, a little lighter than the hugger orange. They are also one of the rarest camaro's around as they were made in very limited quantities for the first gen. I love the fact that there is a camaro that shares my name. I guess I need to make some money and buy the dealerhip and start reproducing them when the 5th gen returns eh?
