Post your best race stories!

I love reading good street racing stories so everyone post your most memorable.

Mine was my first experience with a TTA...

It was about 3:30 am and I was driving back home. I see this 90 stang that I have seen around before. He had no hood and dual carbs with big air cleaners. Sounded decent, but I hate stangs. So we drive down the road side by side, until i see a white 89 firebird. He followed me and the stang behind him. I got on the freeway and did about 40...stang on my left, what I thought was just a firebird on my right. I noticed pillar gauges on the "firebird." I drop the hammer first and get about a car right away. Then I hear the oversized turbo in the TTA spool... at about 70 the TTA pulled a car or so on me, and the stang fell back about 2 cars. At 100 the stang was gone and the TTA was about 3 cars infront of me. At around 130 the TTA slowed down and pulled next to him and say the turbo anniversary badge. I am good friends with him now. I tell you, that is the last time I ever mistake a TTA for a firebird...

I just watched one last night since my car is in the transmission shop (transmission guy showed up at the races though lmao) There was 2 '69 Camaros, '68 Firebird, 60's something Caprice with a blown injected aluminium motor :hail: , some older El Camino and a '71 Nova. The El Camino kicked everyones *** but the Caprice was pulling on him until the blower belt snapped and nearly split the hood in two. One of the Camaros backfired after a burnout and started a little fire under the hood but got it out. Trap speeds were 125+ mph except for the broken car and the Firebird. Lots of fun with a small group of people Looser had to buy the winner dinner So far, my fav street racing experience.

Best race was the one I just had with my father. He got ahead of me with his 67 camaro with a 454, and floored it. I rear the tranny back into first at 15 and nail it. Pull right through 1st to 45 mph, still pulling, I get to around 70 and he pulls away. My valve springs started to float, and his car finally "woke up". I get to my grandfathers house, and simply say "that was pathetic". He promptly props the hood and notes his secondaries wouldnt open. Well he fixed that and proceeded to blow my doors off

Also a mid 80's "racing motored" tercel. Well after the then 305 powered Trans Am smoked that POS by 20 car lengths to 50 mph he shut up.

This is gonna get locked soon, and it's a damn shame. I really enjoy these posts, but I hate you're fighting.

My favorite race was me (89 F-150 I-6 5 speed) versus my co-worker (93 gran prix 3.1 v-6). That had to be the slowest race on record. And I still got my *** handed to me

LoL if your gonna talk about the slowest race, I work on aircraft for a living, and the things we use to tow them (yukes) and they top out at around 30. Well my friend was in one of those, and I was in a 4.7 hp mule. We raced behind hte flightline from 0-30. Took about 20 seconds...but the mule took that 9000lbs yuke like it was standing still lol

Ok, here's one that happend when the parents and I went out for a b-day dinner... We all jumped in the 99 Tahoe they had at the time and headed down to the freeway onramp. We got stopped at a light and this newer Fard Exploader pulls up besides and starts inching up a bit. Well, there's only the one lane to pull onto the freeway onramp and this guy was going to try and cut in front of us Light turns green and sure enough the Exploader dude floors it. My dad floors the Tahoe and keep beside the guy so he doesn't move over to our lane hehehe. We got on the onramp, went on our marry way and the pissed off Exploader guy had to go over the bridge and turn around to get on the freeway again lol

My favorite race would be my only race, it was against some 5-speed Sunbird Vert. I still have dreams about the look on the guys face when he couldn't pull on me above 30 . Then at 60, I had 2 car lengths and flashed my hazards while slamming on the breaks because of some Porshe that pulled in front of me and was going 30 in a 40.

The best race I have ever been in a car when it happened, was when me and my freinds were cruising in his 90 TGP when some kid from school pulled up in a 4 door Sunfire. The car was his g/f, and his g/f was in the car. The kid actually revved at my freind, don't think he saw the turbo badging . Well to put it simply, the Sunfire was back more than 4 car lengths at 70 mph alone.

The best race I have ever seen, was the turbo Caravan against a Type R Integra, and the Caravan had the Type R off the line, and only was behind by a car length or so at the end of 1/4. I bet the Caravan would have won it would have been a RWD.

I was riding with 3 friends in a 87 celebrity...some v6. We were all talking about our cars and how we missed them...riding in this beater car. So my friend who's driving tries to race EVERYTHING at ANY stop light. It's so funny when the car is trying so hard and nobody else knows you're trying to race....and you still get spanked. I laughed so hard I cried that day. RIP Travis's 1987 celebrity. (Lesson learned....change that oil and when the check engine light comes on...don't just take the bulb out):sillylol:

I "raced" my buddy AJ in his 92 Mazda Protege with a few minor mods, when it was pouring rain, at a stoplight. lol, it was just playing around and we both knew what would happen... darn front wheel drive 4 bangers and their all-weather drivability.

I got two storys the first was up in palm dessert, we where in the dodge ram dully with the extended bed and cab( the engine is a straight six turbo deisel, with an 8 speed I believe) the guy that owns the car works for cummings engine he races in the featherlight series also here in cali and up at erwindale and in phoenix. He is my 2nd cousin ( my mothers cousin) so we are in this truck which everyone calls the rig because its freakin huge, and we are going to the movies and a beetle with a spoiler and those HID lights is next to us and is trying to race us so we both give it the gun and the truck kicks his little butt once then he goes for the flyby and we do it again lol. We did hit on the freeway to a Civic ***** ( the front fender was shaking like hell on it) we were doing 90 or more at the time, mark the owner of the truck drives at 90 all the time. Now to my race this was on the 8 going up to alpine here in alpine and Im about to pass a Bmw in the dodge intrepid ( its a 3.5L V6 making 253 hp) and a 4 Runner comes up behind me trying to cut infront of me ( he was in the slow lane behind the beamer and I was in the fast) so I gun it I get up to 95 with him like 5 cars behind me, but my grandmother was in the car at the time so i let off and he gets that flyby, but he knows I had him ( well at least I hope lol)

I have two races i'll remember forever.
First, my 91 F150 4x4, I6, vs 95 T bird with a V8
I acttually spanked him. People don't realise how much torque those straight sixes got.
Second one was in my 84 trans am, against some ***** eagle talon. I got stuck behind him with no safe chance to pass.He was trying, but he just couldn't pull away from me. That was with my 305 too. I can't wait till my 350 is done.

Well I have A really good one but it was incredibly stupid of me and I know that plus this is the street race forum so here goes.

coming home from the community college around 11 am after class and I sport a Chevelle (maybe nova) . He pulls up next to me in the small downtown area of little titusville FL but we are 2/3 cars back in line. I look over and rev up a few times and he dosnt even acknowlege my existence. Im sure he couldnt hear me over his LOUD *** car.

Anyways, we get up several more blocks and Im ahead of him thinking he wont play then I get stopped at a light w/ him right behind me. This is the first light on the way out of "downtown" speed limit went from 30-40-45.

I roll off the line still thinking hes not going then I see hes on my *** so I punch it and so does he. I m now getting all pumped up and shaky and I see him pull into the other lane and I figure he will fly by now but NO. He gains 1/2 car or so and he stays at my door till we see trafic ahead and slow down at this point I was reaching for 5th which puts me about 115 in a 45.

The really stupid part: The street we were on was US1 ( a lot of people know where some portion of this is since it goes from the keys to maine) and is pretty much the main street in town. we raced right passed The packed highschool which has a dunkin donuts right in fron where of course cops hang out.

But g-damn we got lucky and didnt get caught.

I got next to him further down the road and screamed at him "whats in that thing" and he said 396 . Man I about ****. I beat (or tied) a big block.

I saw the guy at the track a few weeks later and barely had a word with him but saw him fun some mid 13s. Obviously he can get off the line better than me since he had drag tires and higher gears but he didnt get to utilize that at all in our little run.

Does anyone else start shaking so bad they have to get off the main road and park? I was shaking, like a dog twitching his leg and couldnt even push the clutch or change gears and I had to pull over for a second. Hell I came in the house and couldnt gather myself for a few minutes.
I guess the adrenaline got going so much from the excitement and danger of the whole thing (or stupidity) That I couldnt handle it..
Dont flame me for it. That was a few years ago and now I would probably do it but shut off at 65-70 If I go at all.

Thought id share

Oh yeah, This was in my mustang.

Yeah actually, my body doesn't shake, but after the race is over my right knee tends to twitch. The first time I took my car over 140, 3 hours later I still couldn't get my knee to stop quivering. It's weird...
