Operation 180mph!

--Disclaimer-- Any comments, ideas or actions on my behalf in this post is merely fictional. It has nor will never happen nor will it ever happen. This is only for amusment...

Ok, now that I got that out of the way...down to business. I want to go 180mph in my camaro in the fictional state of oklahoma. I have already wired a rear light cut out switch in precaution. Suspension is Eibach springs with KYB adjustables. Subframe connectors will be installed within the week. Rolling on 15" allum. Iroc rims wrapped in MT street legal 9 1/2" tires. 10 point roll cage will be put installed in 2 months. The "plan", I scouted out a turnpike that is flat that I feel I can reach a speed of 180mph. I will have 2 cars 3 1/2 miles apart from each other 5 miles in front of me, and 1 car 2 miles behind me. I have water based paint to disguise the appearance of my car, and to be washed off at a later time. I have been planning this for months, but there is always something that could go wrong. My #1 concern is cops... I am sure getting caught doing 180 in a 65 is slightly illegal. What I need to know (purely fictionally) what other steps could I take to make this normally unsafe operation more smooth? I feel like there is a factor that I am missing...

By the way...I realize that this may sound extremely stupid to a majority of the readers, so if your comments are only to negate my ideas, I would appreciate it if you left your comments to yourself. I full understand the fictional risk that could happen if this operation ever did happen.

umm.. i dont know if u are trying to ask something.. or just tell something.. but im wondering about ur tranny. cause i know when i just got my iroc with the wonderful 305 and stock tranny (700R4) i maxes out at like 120'ish. with the 350 it was like 130. the problem was the whole 3-4 kickdown thing.. u know.. if u r past liek 1/2 trottle it goes from 4th gear back into 3rd.. and u really dont get to use the 4th gear. well now.. 3 years later and ..see sig.. i can see how that kickdown thing helps out. cause now i hit 125-127 mph at roughly 6000pms before it shifts into 4th (this is with the petal to the metal) and when it shifts into 4th, it goes back to 2700 rpms.. and get to climb from there.. now i have only had the car to about 160 *i have a 150 speedo and the needle was baried* and i was around 3800-3900 rpms.. but i ran out of road/freeway and shut it down.. plus the fact that i had really ****ty tires on.. and not Z-rated or ZR rated like i should have.. but hey.. good luck to u:lala:

insane...
but tight as hell too :P

top speed i have gone in my bird is 120. I had to slow down because of traffic, and for some reason my govenors didn't kick in. Oh well, i will fix that later. but when i was doing a 120 in 5th gear, i was running at like 2750 rpms, so like aziroc said, can you even make it up to that speed, assuming your engine can handle it.

All i can say is at 180, one little thing goes wrong with the steering, your screwed. I hope you have good breaks to stop yourself if you can.

gl, don't get yourself killed.

Pretty dumb idea on a public road. I know we all run our cars through the 1/4 on roads but most of us are only going 85-110mph in those situations. The braking from those speeds are reasonable but from 180????. If you are going to attempt it take your car to a front end shop and make sure all steering linkage is tight and the alignment correct. Then get the brakes checked, install z rated tires etc and good luck and I hope you don't kill anyone on the road.

First off don't do it when there are any other cars on the road, or at least a small amount. Also invest in a police scanner and listen for about 4 hours ahead of your fictional run. I would install new brake pads a week ahead of time (give them time to break in and make sure there right) and check all steering and braking componets.
180mph is not impossible, I have gone about 155 with my '91 RS (B4C State Trooper car) and I still hadle pedal to go , but I was chicken shiit that day (and yes it was on a totally deserted road, Gotta love Wisconsin, nobody is ever on the roads).
Be Safe and Good Luck, Garrett

make sure you have good areodynamics, take the mirrors off, mess with your buckets, cover up any holes with duct tape or something.

also i have noticed the rear of the car get excessively light at high speeds, kinda scary. now maybe a functional wing that can give you some downforce back there would be good.

Take your fictional wheels and fictional tires to a fictional tire shop and have the fictional people there balance the fictional tires. At 180mph fictional tires that are out of balance would cause quite a fictional vibration. Write up a fictional will, just in case.

I only have one thing to say.

Check the sticky that RX7 put at the top of this board. And I hope you realize that you're an idiot. But if not, we'll start a sticky thread for you soon too.

Hell yeah!!!!

Go for it. At least you are building a cage and getting the safety issues done with. That is a must. On a public road, it's iffy. Make sure you pull the plates, and paint it black if you are gonna do that. I have a need for top speed problem too. 160 is plenty enough for me though. I hit 152 in the CA car the other day on the freeway, just got new Kumho WR rated tires, wanted to test um out.

Oh yeah, are you gonna use something other than the stock spoiler on this run???? If not you better raise the car up a bit in the back to get a slight raked stance, or you are gonna lose it above 165 for sustained periods of time. The raked stance smooths the ride out and creates a killer downforce. Above 130 you can feel your car 'sit' in the pocket and it will make it much more stable.

I really don't feel that this relates to a Theoretical Street Race and this will just generate controversy anyway.
