a 305 in good running order should run mid 15's with decent traction. with headers adn exhaust i'm guessing you'd gain around .1-.2 seconds off your ET which isn't bad at all. if you could get one with the 5-speed, stock for stock they're almost as good as the 350 auto's.

If you actually do go with the 305, make sure it's a stick, and not an auto. That's what I'm doing, either 305 stick or 350 auto, and nothing else.

You have to have the G92 option in addition to a 305 5 speed to run with a 350. If the 350 had 2.77s then you might have a chance anyway.

Kag when are you gonna sell me that car??

If you're interested in speed I say go for the 350. The g92 305 will keep up with a 350 but thats stock. A couple of mods here and there and the 350 will take it no problem. If you don't really care about speed then go for the g92 as they are not that common.

my 305 stock ran a 15.3 at 89mph. then i put a cone air filter and ported my plentum and ran a 15.1 with a little wheel but still managed to get a 2.1 60ft so you should be in the low 15s with an auto and prolly high 14s with stick

If you really want a IROC 350, just wait til you find one. Don't settle on something you don't want just because you want a car.

I have to disagree. I have been looking for a thirdgen forever, I have now lowered myself to buying a V6 car because here in Illinios you have to look real hard to find a car that isn't rusty. I just need a good body.

When I was looking for a TTA to buy, there were like 4 in Illinois, as well as few nice GTA's, etc..but that's a little too far for me to go for a car

The only 305 I would get would be a 91-92 Speed Density 5-Speed. Those can run mid-high 14's. Or just wait for the car you want.

the g92s have 225 hp, cause of the dual cats and the same cam as the 350?(not sure on that). to find the g92 rpo code, on 89-91.5 it should be in the center console, on 91.5-92 it should be in the little compartment in the hatch. cant rush finding a car, took me 7 monthes

Your absolutely right, there isn't much difference in the gear ratio. The differrence is that the 3.42 is the ten-bolt rear axle and the 3.45 is for the 9-bolt rear.

Oh, and dude, I waited 2 years for the right black/350/posi/4 wheel disc Iroc-Z, and I know how frustrating it can be because I thought about just getting a 305 also, since that was all I could find, but believe me its much better to wait for exactly what you want. If you just need transportation that's different, but when you want a really specific car, its better to wait for the right one.

I have both an 89 305/5 speed 3.08 gear converted to speed density with hypertech chip and a 87 350 auto, 3.27 gear pretty much stock but the K&N's. The 87 wins hands down. I have no quarter times to back up the claim but trust me I know my cars. Quote from a fiend of mine after riding in the 87 and then a few weeks later in the 89. "This car gets up a little quicker because of the stick huh?" Then I punched it in first and ran it out to third. "It doesn't quite give me the butterflies in the stomach that the red one does." One point to remember when shopping for G92 cars is there was no G92 with the 350 in 87 cause all 350 cars in 87 had the Borg Warner 9 bolt with 3.27 gears. In 88 and up I believe you had to specify G92 to get the 3.27 gears.
