Porsche 944 Turbo

hey guys, I know you won't believe me, but I did beat one. And no it wasn't off the line. I don't know what the run, and if it was drastically better than me, I would assume he wasn't trying, but this is how it went. I-95 S from NJ to PA (driving to school) right around Sesame Place (yipee) is the setting. I am doing about 70 and I see on the horizon what I think is an older black RX-7. I get to about 80 and see it's a black 944 with "TURBO" written in white on the back. As I'm pulling closer to him, this puff of white smoke comes out of his brand new muffler (he def had an exhaust) and he takes off. I drop the car into D and give it a little more than 1/2 throttle. He pulls nicely on me and when he slows down I'm right back behind me. We had hit a lot of traffic so he starts changing lanes and going faster to get into open space. I follow, and am right on his ***. As we make the final left turn to open lanes, the puff of smoke is back so I drop and floor it this time. He didn't gian an inch. I started pulling when he tapped his brakes so I slowed down. Then he pulled in the middle lane when i was still in the left and he dropped his hand. We were at it again. I floored it and we were dead even. Like if he was holding a newspaper in his window i could have easily read all the titles. After about 30 secs, I hit OD and I start pulling (WTF). Maybe he started letting off, but I waited til I was about half a car in front of him and then stopped. About 2 miles further up the road he honked at me and got off at an exit and I just kept cruising. I was really proud of my car. I have never seen it pull that hard up top and it really pulled. I actually had torque! It was really fun. I have no idea how fast we were going at all, because i had my eyes on the road and him and my tach, and the needle was probably bouncing at the bottom of my 85mph speedo. We def hit at least 115mph in the side by side race. We started at like 80 and raced for almost a minute. I think I was at like 3500rpms in OD when we stopped. That is quick for my car, because I shift manually at 5250 rpms with my cam. Thank you cam. What do these poor excuses for a Porsche run anyway. Mid to low 15's?

it really depends on the year. the early ones were absolute turds, the later ones werent much better. some of them might dip down into the 14's but I dont think they were much faster than that. I considered getting one for a while, glad I saw the light.

Well the turbo 2.5 motor came out in 86 IIRC and the curb weight of those cars are 2800lbs and the motor made 220hp with the turbo... most 944 turbos run 14.4-14.0 easily.

sounds like he wasn't trying then, or he had a non turbo, or it was stick and he sucked at it. The guy was at least 40 with a white beard, so make your own conclusions. Whatever, the t/a will take what it can get. And that occurance was at least a tie. So that's good for me.

A guy in my town has a late 80 944 nonturbo. That thing is nothing to write home about. Kinda cool that they are front engine. But, still ugly.

so for now, i'll assume it was a non-turbo with a turbo rear bumper. Still a good kill for my slow car. "Hey everyone, I beat a Porsche!"

yeah, probably, but the guy i raced was pretty old, or at least a young guy with a white beard (WTF?). Yeah, your Beretta is pretty hot. Hopefully i'll be running at least low 15's by the end of summer.
