D*mn L03

Well tonight I had my first real race, it was a Honda CRX. Lets just say it was not good. I have beaten a lot of STOCK cars but this guy had a little more than that. First race I spun the tires and lost big time. Second race we were side by side till about 55mph then he just takes off. At 95mph I let off(we were racing down 23rd street in Lawrence at 1:00am which one of the main streets) he had about 2 car lengths on me. We pull over and come to find his engine is all decked out and has spray. All I know is if I had my dads 68 Camaro I would have killed him.

I share your pain. I raced a F-250 (older style) ext 4X4 the other day to 40mph and only won by a car length.

OF course, I have to pretend I'm not racing. Act real casual, as if it had way more

Ya well 170 horse will make you feel like your driving a bus from time to time. The only thing I can suggest to you is an engine swap. Besides that the L03 is pretty useless (OK I didn't mean useless just non-cost effective to mod).

Ouch man, those cars stock run 17s or, then again the L03 is no killer V8 either.

all I can say is sorry man.

Time to start saving for a motor. I also agree that for most L03 owners this is the most cost effective way to run faster. Toss a junkyard 350 or (better yet) 400 in with a decent cam and you have an instant 13 second car.

Yup these LO3's are absolutely horrible stock....

Ever since i got beat by a V6 mustang......bad day........I'm gonna build this engine up a little bit cause i can't afford labor on a engine swap....

No please don't mod that 305. Anything you do to the L03 is going to cost more than the engine swap. Plus if you do the engine swap yourself your can come out faster for cheaper.

A good juckyard 350 (400 would be great) will bolt right in to where the 305 was. I don't know about around you, but here I can get a running 350 complete from a yard for $100 - $300 depending on year, heads, intake, carb., etc. And then spend a weekend with a knowledgable friend (perhaps a few cases of beer too) and pull the old 305 and install the junkyard engine. And istantly for about $600 you have a 350 with some *****. The $600 is for misc. stuff, used carb, fuel regulator, and other odds and ends above purchase of $300 engine plus you have a 305 you can sell, maybe get enough for it to pay for the beer, (beer isn't that expensive but a stock L03 isn't worth much).

After the stock engine swap you would have a definate low 15's car for sure, maybe even high 14's. That doesn't even take a cam swap, or even removing the heads, or exhaust work (but exhaust work would make a big difference). Plus the feeling of doing it yourself which is priceless.

Just something for you to think about.

Listen to them. Toss that L03. Get a L98. My 90 RS has a L03 and I dont even bother racing it on the street anymore. Its pathetic compared to a L98. The closest race I ever had in the L03 was with a 98 Acura Integra GSR with all the boltons and I only beat him by 1 car length to 90. Other than that I either smoked the other guy because he had like 50 hp or I got smoked.
