grudge match

Once the track opens for grudge matches, a guy from my college and I will be running and i wanted to see if you guys thought i could take him. He's got a third gen camaro just as i do, but he's running a pretty stoudt 355 carb setup, but still has the stock 2.77 posi unit. I have a 305 tbi, but have 3.42 posi and will be putting on a nitrous kit before the race (along w/ all my other, smaller mods: exhaust, etc). Do you think i can take him for a few bucks or should i just keep my wallet in my pocket and drive.

I think if you pick your mods carefully and then have enough leftover for the shot you'll take him.

Don;t be so vague. What mods will you have on your car if everything youplan for comes to fruition? Exactly how big a shot are we talking on top of that?

Yuck his 2.77 is holding him up! That's his achilles heal right there.

Well, he's not my friend, it was just a race that my buddy set up, so i can't say i know a whole lot about the car. I've heard it run and checked out the motor, but i never drove it or even rode in it. My friend seems to think that he's probably pushing around 320's hp, which i presume he's talking at the crank. If thats the case, i should be close when i hit the juice, but i have the gears on him, so theoretically, i think i can beat him, i just wanted to see what everyone else thought

I dunno.... I think he's got you..... but you haven't been real specific on what mods you're gonna have done. I wouldn't put any money on it.

just because you have higher gears doesnt mean you'll take him off the line. i bet he has a higher stall converter which is gonna throw him in his rpm range. i think he has you....

I know for sure he doesn't have a stall, b/c i remember asking him that. As for the rest of my mods, I've done all the basic stuff, without going into the internals of the motor...I.E. full exhaust, air intake, rear gears, nitrous, etc. I'm not confident that my car's faster by any means, He just wanted someone to run and I was up for it. I am however, pretty sure i'm a better driver from what i've been told and what he's indicated to me... so i guess it'll just be a matter of seeing who can do what and if luck/skill is on my side. thanks for your input guys

I don't want to upset anyone, but I am going to give this one to the 355. If he is making 320 HP, its going to be hard beating him on the top end. I'm sure he is also making enough torque to hold his own off the line, even with those horrible gears. You are going to need some substantial mods to take him, like heads and cam. Or I could be completely wrong about the entire thing. Good luck.

Line him and find out, but i would go with the 355. Thats just to much HP/TQ to over come in my opinion. My wife has a 96 TA with only stock 285HP at the flywheel not his 320HP, and 2.73's to his 2.77's. I cant touch her car with my 92 TPI 5-Speed G92 which has 230HP plus the good old K/N with cut air boxes & 3.42's. I get it off the jump but thats it. So something tells me your TBI just wont live upto par. But i could be wrong, go find out.

Hey guys, thanks for all of your input. I appreciate everyones honesty. I guess I just thought that things will be a little closer w/ the shot of nitrous involved, but hey, its all in good fun, and this is the reason we build our cars- to drive them. So when the track opens, i'll be there, and if i get my *** handed to me, at least i'll have fun in the process. later on

Donnie

Don't discount the 2.77's. That's what I was running in my 88. They aren't the best in the world but, with the right mods it can still be pretty fast.
