ate a stang

me and a couple buddies were out messing around this afternoon. now i don't think my car is all that fast. its 305 only mods are i removed the airconditioning, edelbrock performer intake, edelbrock 600 cfm carb and a dynomax catback. well i ended up side by side with a brand new mustang. couldn't catch a light so i pulled up next to him at about 40 mph and revved at him a couple times. outta no where he floors it so iput my pedal down and before i know it i had like 3 cars on him. it must have been a 6 cylinder but still he was mad. haha nothin is better than beating a ford.

good kill i would bet that it was a 6cyl too, with the minimal mods you have done on the 305 i very highly doubt you are running deep in the 14s such as a gt would be

Shoot - those Sixer Mustangs are garbage! I think I've had to show them where it's at about 4 or 5 times. Always... ALWAYS smoke them badly. Alot of folks think "Mustang = Fast!"... psssh.

They old mustangs were....the new ones, GT's, still hard, but arnt near as cool as like a Fastback is. Dad had a 10 sec fastback. Easy to smoke those since they were really light in the rear, but fast because the whole car was also light.

I removed my a/c myself. Just unbolt the a/c unit after unplugging it from all it's attachments and the belt. I have everything off it now, even the silver refridgerator cylinder. That whole a/c unit is a good twenty pounds too. It's not hard, and I have had it off like that for over a year now. Just make sure you keep the air off on the a/c controls.

It sounds like a 6. The new V6s with sticks can be mid to low 15 second cars. There have been some high 14s run with them, but I have only witnessed a 15.4. That same 15.4 car (bone stock) went high 14s (I forget the time, maybe 14.8) with some minor mods and Mcrearys! The 99-03 V6s are nothing like the 94-98s.

This kid I went to high school with had a 2001 V6 auto Mustang convertible and he thought it was all badass. I was like "John, if you had bought any other Mustang from that year, it would be faster. You got the slowest one, haha." That shut him up. From then on all he did was ask what exhaust he should get

I love picking on the typical V6er just as much as the next guy.

They think they are better because their car is new, there have been tons of heated debates between the V6 guys and the 3rd gen stang guys on www.stangnet.com

sixers are real funny, my friend has a slow 86, with a 3.8 and after losing to me a few times, everytime i go to a shop he asks, do you have headers and full exhaust system for my 86, and when the guy says no, he says, do you know how much it would be to put a 5.0 in, keep in mind hes asking guys at like pep boys and stuff

What's funny is some of these V6 stang drivers trying to make people think they're driving a V8 by putting dual exhaust and 17" rims and stuff. I dunno if you guys have noticed that. Granted I am not a Ford guy but I'm pretty sure that no V6's come with dual pipes out the back. If you look at the back bumper too V6 mustangs say "mustang" on it while V8s say "cobra" or "mustang GT" or whatever.

Well, I know one thing, the only newer Mustangs that I have seen with the Cobra R front bumper are V6s. They drive around all cocky like they are better than everyone else with their V6 rims and one tailpipe At least the people in the V8s have some respect for their car.

I really hate how people think just b/c they have a mustang it's fast. Everyone associates how the 80's were sooo much faster....update they aren't. More people may have fast 5.0 stangs, but, the big misconception is that stock they are faster than camaros. This comes from mustangs racing bone stock RS 305tbi camaros(no offense to those on the site who own these cars). I'm just making a point. If you do the same thing to a 350TPI Iroc or Z28 it will be just as fast if not faster depending on the driver than a stang. I'm not a stang hater, I like anything that's fast, I just hate how Camaros have no respect on the street due to this controversy.

Okay, I am not doubting but what would it take to go 12.9 in an L98 Camaro?

My friends LX went 12.9 at 104 with:
4.10s, ET Streets, removed sway bar, lower control arms, headers, H-pipe, cat-back, pulleys, and filter!

The car is an 86 Coupe with an 87 driveline and weighed 3200 lbs. Now with injectors, MAM, intake and t-body it went 12.5! I have personally never seen or even heard of an L98 Camaro do that and have seen and heard of at least 10 Mustang do it with no engine mods, since the late 80s.

Camaros have respect where I am there just aren't very many running better than 14s. The f-body is much better suited for corners than the straight line, and with a limited production (i know there were a lot but nowhere near the amount of Mustangs) of the L98 it allows the Mustang to shine on!

Ok not trying to start a war here, but, I have to doubt a little here. 12.9 w/o any engine mods at all. I understand that suspension and gears help, but, without the topend sticking to to the track only helps so much. In 87' a mustang had stock 225horse 300torque. So you are telling me that you can run 12's with 225 horse?!? Wow never heard of that. This is what I found just for a 305. 1992 1LE 305: 13.9@99mph--mods included exhaust, coil, and K&N filters. I have heard of foxbody stangs hitting 12's fairly easily, but, not that easily. Anyway was just giving my opinion on the page not who can run what with what. There are too many variables to include. The same car can run 15's here, 14's there, it all depends. Just my opinion.

Badbowtie88, its too easy to go high 12's w/ a bolt on 5spd 5.0. Here is another guy who did it, look at his short list of mods and check out that trap speed for a BOLT ON car:

http://www.corral.net/forums/showthr...hreadid=236223

My car goes 12's, but on a tiny drag radial. It could go high 11's on a real tire and more gear, but thats another story.

I'm sorry I'd just have to watch this happen guys. I'm sorry, but, anyone can post #'s on a site and you just have to trust that. But, within reason. 12's on tires and gears just isn't believable to me I'm sorry. Hey Grn92Lx what's your mods just out of curiosity? Running 12's is awesome but a bigger tire and gears is gonna gain you a full second?? I've heard of a stall giving some guys up to half a second, but, that's a different story...

Well back in the late 80s there were guys running 12s. Bob Cosby's 88 Mustang coupe went 12.99 @ 103 with:
Comp. module, off road exhaust w/ no mufflers, removed sway bar, pulleys, thermostat, 3.73s, 26x8 slicks, and a short belt.

It then went 12.93 @ 103.5 with:
Tming bump.

Then it went 12.83 @ 103.5 with:
Homemade ram air.

If you don't believe me check here. He might be lying but has also has an 11 second bolt-on Cobra, that millions of people have seen!
http://members.***.net/bobcosby/stang/

There are many more also.

GrnLX, I haven't seen cleanLX in a while, I talked to him a little about his car and the last time I talked he was 13.00, I didn't know he hit 12s!

Badbowtie, my bad, I should have posted my sig. My car went 12.80 @ 107, but I have since made quite a few changes. I did a custom grind cam, added longtube headers, milled the heads, gasket matched the intake port on the heads and dropped some weight. Like I said, with a 26x10.5" tire and some 410's, it easily could go high 11's. I wonder how fast it would go if I swapped in the 150 jets I havent sprayed the car at the track and to be honest, I think im gonna ditch the nitrous. I popped a head gasket a few weeks ago while spraying, so it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to use it..

Wow Grn92 sounds like a pretty nice car man. With that you probably will hit 11's. As for 5.0Mustang, like I said originally I was just stating my opinion to this post. I didn't want to start a war. If they ran that, they ran that good for them. I wish I could run that fast with 225 horse. No 5.0 has ran that with nothing done to the motor at the track I go to. I was just going off what ran around my area. None of us want a chewing from a moderator so let's just call it even guys. Anything that is fast is cool with me.

Beleiev em I don't want to start either, I just wanted to show that Mustangs can and do do it, maybe not in your area, but hey the fastest L98 I have seen wen 14.8, and I know they can run much faster (like your car). I just have to stick up for the Mustang a little!

I actually raved him, but ya that is the fastest I have seen. That is alos the only L98 I have ever seen at our track besides a Firebird that I never saw run. There aren't very many 3rd gens that run on a regular basis, except one turboed 12 second one, and a beat up 15 second one!

Oh ya as far as getting out more, I am there almost every week on the street night and at all of my clubs events.
