question for the guys in here making alot of power
im just curious if u get alot of races when ur out and about. every since i put the 406 in, i have only had a hand full of races (have had the engine in for abit over a year.. only has 3k miles on it). yet when im out on my R6, every damn ***** (and hillbilly in his truck) thinks they have a chance. also, everytime i come into here i begin to get tired of seeing *lo3 vs geo metro* granted not everyone has a iroc or z28 out there.. but im just tired of these guys keep asking.. y not just go and race!!! or get mods and go faster.. or get something bigger then a 305!! (getting off of soap box now) just curious how u guys do when ur out.

i didnt say u had to have 8k or a 406.. i just said a fast car.. like atleast mid-low 13's. this post wasnt ment to flame u(cause u must have a slow car.. or lost to a geo), or anyone else.. i just wanted to see what/how other guys with fast cars are doing street racing wise.
I will admitt there are a lot of would this F-body (usually 305) beat this car (alot of family cars, trucks, and economy cars). I am not complaining and I think you should be able to race whoever you want, it was just something I noticed.
aziroc, don't worry, I don't street race my high 13 second car (will be mid to low this season) so hopefully I don't fall into the group!

I can't speak first hand (currently slow *** TBI), but I think a lot of the really fast guys probably street race in semi-organized conditions.
Like, with a starter, and for money, etc.
I can't see too many people with a $8000 small block running on 110 race gas wanting to race the minivan in the next lane.

Trending Topics
Most of the faster cars post on the drag racing topic. I am building my 305 up and trying to get as many races as I can now, even if I lose. That way no one will know my car is fast later on. The best feeling is winning a race as an underdog. Who cares if you know you can totally destroy a car, it is much harder to win one you are supposed to lose. That is why a lot of the really fast cars don't get a lot of races, they know they will win, and they don't want to waste gas or risk a ticket. Us slower guys still have things to prove. And yes, sometimes it is to those little family cars that the kids of america are trying to make fast. We all try and put them in their place.

Ok. I have not had a decent race in my 84' for months. There are a few nice cars around...but my car is so dammn loud that no one ever steps up except a stupid yuppie once in a while. The last good race I had was a LT1 ram air T/A, we are gonna race again soon...as soon as my new suspension is in.
In Hawaii....with my 91' RS...I don't ever get to race it. The only races I get are against my mom's vette! It sucks. Once you get a rep around town for having a fast ride, people don't like to step up anymore. My 355 for that car is almost done so then I'll be able to run with the old dudes around town who have the really fats cars. Once you you get a rep around town for having a REALLY fast car, others seem to step up, at least until you beat um' or lose to them.

Its funny that you mention this because it happens to me all the time. Whenever someone throws a rev at me I rev back and then they ignore me. Where I live there are a ton of ****rs, but oddly enough they respect the might v8's because the fastest cars where I live are v8 muscle cars. I can't seem to get races anymore. Maybe I should stop reving back at people and just nod or something like that.
Its a little bit depressing.

since i have put my new engine in i have only been challenged to a couple of races. when i had my 305 i would always get challenged now to my surprise no one wants to try me. i am glad though i hate street racing unless it is in a safe place with someone who is comprable to your car. some people think they can drive like vin diesel any and everywhere.

its all about bench racing man.....thats what this whole forum is about lol.
i personally have no problem with the whole 305 vs yugo stuff.....race what ya brung people......if you cant afford to build a fast car right now its not your fault. i remember when i had a toronado (88) and i used to race people with it lol.
not everyone can come on here and say, "hey would my 572ci blown alcohol funny car iroc beat this twin turbo pro 5.0 mustang"
cut people some slack
but to answer your question i raced alot of people when i first built the car, but after word gets out it dies down alot lol. at first you get the non-believers and the beat the king of the hill thing though

When my car was stock and all dressed in primer, I would get quite a few races. Now that it actually looks good and is loud, no one wants to line up with me. I get more races in my truck and that thing has a 305 (LE9). I think what happened was that everyone that wanted to race me did so in the beginning, now they all had their turn and dont want to go another round. Oh well.

Bah, I tell everyone that its still the 305, I get lots of chalenges expecialy by 350 cars, makes it even funnier after i woop a 350 Roc and still tell him its a 305, asking him whats wrong with his 350.
I havnt had a chance to really test my car out since the mods, we got way to much snow here for any of that. But I would guess my cars somewere in the 13's going off of some of the cars I have beat, so its not like I am one of them super fast guy's.

i have a '92 RS witha 385hp crate motor (hence my name). i switched it out from a RS V-8 5.0L that put out 205hp. the increase in power was unbelievable. i don't get too many races, but when i do it's the most satisfying thing i've ever experienced to beat a souped up mustang or old muscle car. 99 times out of 100, the people i pull up next to at the light are old people, and not too many seem to be looking for a race. oh well, still fun to floor that pedal and hear the tires screech and the exhaust roar
I got a 86 iroc with a 383. brodix heads, 9:1 compression, je pistons, scat crank, and a bunch of other stuff, and i race people all the time, but its getting old cause all the people in town know whats under the hood. I smoked a **** load of stangs, and a brand new 2002 LS1 Trans AM. I humbled a couple RS's, but i must admit i got my *** schooled by a hugger orange 69 SS camaro with a big block and 4.10 gears. pretty sure the guys runnin over 500 horse. Anyways, can't wait to get my new rear end with 3.73 gears, cause i got a ton of races lined up for this spring. later

When I first dropped the motor in a got into a few races...not many though since the trans was on its way out, the car is off the road for a while, but she'll be back with a vengence

it probably wasn't me, i'm from hartford Wi. Does any one know what some of the fox body mustangs are running in the 1/4? I'm talking 5.0's with no interenal mods, just bolt ons, (gears, intake, exhaust) I know a couple of guys around town looking for races with their 5.0's. Let me know

Oh, ok thanks Joe. The guy I was talking about lives in NJ, in my town, so I guess it is just a coincidence. 5.0's with just gears, intake, and exhaust can go as fast as low 14's from my experiences. But my friend has one, 89 I think, with headers, flowmaster, and some computer thing, I think it is called the Viper, or Cobra. Some kind of snake. It is supposed to change fuel mixture and air mixture and boost hp. All I know is that his best time is 15 flat, but he ran a 16 flat one time because the computer thing wouldn't let the car shift out of 2nd gear. So he finished the 1/4 mile redlining 2nd and at like 92 mph. It is a quick car, but for some reason something always goes wrong at the track.
I don't get too many races either
it's like most people know better
just some friends that I know will race me
yeah but I get tired of seeing the same topic over and over
will my 305 tbi beat a etc........
the chances of it beating much on the road if it is stock isn't good!

Ever since I put my big block in my car I dont get many race either. Most cars dont want to attempt it.But then some peolpe dont give 3rd gen camaros that much respect anyway no matter whats in it.

I have a 5.0 with those exact mods, and I went 13.90, which is actually slow for my mods. A stock internal car can be 12s with Drag radials! This is with stock heads and cam, with heads they could be low 12s, and then with a cam in the 11s! But this is just my experience with Mustangs!

Well I am not making alot of power. But I have noticed that when I am going to go somewhere I ask myself, "take my car or my work truck, my gas or company gas?" So alot of the time i will keep the miles off of my car and save money on gas by taking the truck(2001 toyota tacoma, slow as a dog) EVERY TIME I am out in the truck I see ****rs thinking they are the shiznick and wanting to race. But when i am in my GTA, ALMOST NEVER. It drives me crazy! I know that I will go insane if I ever get my car into the 11s.

I've gotten three challenges in the past 7 months with my Iroc. One had a turbo and just wanted to see what he'd do against a car with known numbers (swedish meatball boy
), and two imports with nitrous. (No decals, and they were cool guys, so not ****.) I don't consider my car hella-quick.. but apparently the street crowd here does because noone will run me.
When the VW was on the street... every third stoplight I'd get some *****, Mustang, and on the off chance a Vette throwing revs at me. Either our cars just look mean, or they see the 5.7 Litre emblem and the lift bars hanging down and don't bother.
Point: Most people only throw revs at something they're 80% sure they'll beat.
Edit: Since when was the four letter word for a white Asian cuisine censored on the boards? (Powered by Uncle Ben)

Guys, evading the filters is a good way to earn probation and then a ban on continued abuse of the board software. Keep that in mind then you're typing out your exclamation points and other such methods of evasion kthx.
