me and a buddy were cruising last night and met some guys. One of them had a 50th anniversary z06. We asked if he wanted to run us (my blown/zz4 iroc and my buddy's stroked cobra) and he said sure. From about 40mph, I hung a bit and then he left. We then tried on the freeway from about 50...I edged then hung for about 4 seconds then he left. I shut down when he was 1 1/2 car lengths ahead. I beat my buddy's stroked cobra by a little.
I can't believe how fast those z06's are! I have yet to tune the car w/the blower on, I still don't have a gauge so I don't know how much boost I'm running (the wastegate/blowoff valve/whateveryouwannacallit is adjustable), and I am about to put on a ramair setup for it. Should this help me get on top of this guy?
He and his friends were really cool and I'm just glad I got to benchmark myself vs one of them

Nice race, it would've been nice to see what might have happened from a dead stop. Whats the story on your friends Cobra?
my buddy's cobra has a 331 stroker motor in it, and has been balanced to 8grand. It's a very strong car, and though I beat him (which I should), it's not by very much and it all depends upon who launches best.

wait, you want to put a ram air setup on a blower motor??? Have you hit your head on anything hard recently???
Supreme Member
A ram-air setup would be an asset to a blower as it would allow more cool air to be drawn in from outside the car instead of just recycling the hot air from the engine compartment. Ram air is usually not needed, of course, but it doesn't hurt.
The anniversary edition vettes aren't really anything exciting as far as performance goes. Pretty sure it wasn't even offered on the z06 as the only ones I've seen have been on the targa top or convertibles with that horrid purplish color.

I didnt know that they had released the 50th anniversary Vette yet. Saw an article on them in C&D, they have a 427, put out 500 or so hp, and 520 torque. It spins its tires so much that they had to launch it in 2nd to bog the car enough to get traction. And they only ran a 12.4 doing that.

The production 50th has been out for a while now, there's one at the dealership a few miles from my house, it has the same LS1 as the base model vette. What it does have for the extra few thousand is (taken directly from the Official Vette Website

50th Anniversary Red Exterior
Unique Shale Interior
50th Anniversary Badging
Color-Coordinated Wheels
Floor Mats with 50th Logos
Magnetic Selective Ride Control
That's it. No 500hp engine no nothing. Can you say DISAPPOINTING? I don't think ANY vette enthusiast was pleased with that as the big 50th anniversary edition offering.

So the 50th Anniv. Corvette can't even have the ZO6 option on it? And all it has for an engine is a LS1. Then there is no way that you raced a stock LS1 vette it must not have been a 50th anniv. car it must have been a ZO6. Otherwise if you have a blown IROC and lose to a base LS1 vette it's surely time to do some tuning.
Later, Garrett
actually, it was a Z06 50th anniversary. It was silver, and faaast. He popped the hood for me, and the beautfiul LS6 was there.
and to answer your question ... yes, I did hit my head hard

how you know it was a LS6 motor?
how would a stock one beat your motor w/ a blower?
I agree they are faster than hell but damn wtf is wrong with your car

May not be the 50th anniversary edition i was thinking of. Check the new Car and Driver, the one on 50 years of the Vette.
yes, either way, I need it tuned big time. We'll see what happens from there!

All '03 Vettes should have 50th anniversary badging if I'm not mistaken.

Oh my that is one lame *** 50th birthday for the Corvette... makes me happy to be an f-body enthusiast instead (in other words: glad to be poor)

So you could enjoy the 35th anniv Camaro? A lameass sticker package as well? makes me happy to be an f-body enthusiast instead
I can't believe they did that to the 50th Vette though, for crying out loud. That is not anything special. Maybe if they all had the LS6 standard that would be something. But just flat out standard with stickers and a friggin plaque? Bitches...
Crap, I take it all back. I didn't notice the 50th floor mats... Wooboy! Thank you Chevy.

The 50th anniversary option wasnt offered in the z06. How do you know it was an LS6 anyways? The LS1 engines are identical as far as appearance goes.

I thought that was the '05 Vette, not the 50th anny version??

Z06's have those air ducts on the side which the standard vettes don't and I believe the 03's are idenical to the 02's.
Supreme Member
He said he popped the hood and the beautiful LS6 was there. The thing is there no way of telling its an LS6 or an LS1 by just looking at the engine. They are both identical externally.
Supreme Member
LOL who told you it had a 427? LMFAO!!!
anyway, all it has is extra badges, way to go GM
Still bad *** car though.....

all 50th anniversary vettes had LS6 Blocks and intake, but didn't have the heads cam combo that makes the ls6 about 50 hp more
I believe you can tell the difference between blocks on the back of the right side of the block by looking at the serial number

Doesn't the LS6 get red valve cover things, or am I thinking of something else?

There is a guy named Guildstrand who is making only 50 of his 50th anniversary vette's. His vette's DO have 427 LS1 motors with 500 horse. And they are very sweet looking. Silver on gold with cool badging. That's probably what you saw. Tickets were going for 100k and only 100 were available just to look at this car when he premiers it this month I believe.

Every 2001 and up LS1 recieves the LS6 intake. The 2001 and up cars actually have a smaller camshaft to offset the extra horsepower that the intake manifold provides. And aboout the fuel rail covers, all vettes have them, but i dont know if there is a difference in colors on the LS6 and the LS1.
Supreme Member
even if it had the brake ducts wouldnt mean its a z06, i have seen lots of normal vette guys around here that have put the brake ducts on their car, and it would also have had the z06 badging on the side..if it just said z06 it would be a 01 385hp model, the 02-03 badges say z06 405hp...the 01 just said z06

yeah, my dad's got an '01 z06 and I have my Camaro that runs around 14.6s (not sure if you all hate me for not being specific with time slips, but anyhow) I found an '02 on the freeway and I stood no chance.... You know those cars that are so fast you don't want to race, you just wanna screw around and watch them run away from you? Well yeah... so I started screwing around with this z06, jumping in front of him, blinkers, flashers, etc... then he got next to me and just said bye... Enough said.. *poof* gone.

OK... the 50th anni vettes has to be a special order.. that means if you want one with badges and stickers and cool floor mats, you have to check it off on the RPO list...you can get a '03 vette without the badges and what not... You cant get the 50 anni badges on a Z06. If he had them on his Z06 then he must be some special guy cause no where on the order sheet does it have an option for it. Also, you can only get the new mag. ride shocks with the 50th as standard, and as an option for the regular coupe and vert, but you can NOT get it for a Z06 vette. The Z06 has little to no options because its built for speed, not for cool badges... The 50th vette carries the same 350hp LS1 thats been there since 97(sort of). There not gunna juice the vette up right before it waves buy bye... What ever rumors you heard about the next vette, C6, is nothing but hype. its probably gunna get a LS1 with a little more cam and a little better heads and have it up to 375. The 427 will probably never ever see itself between the fenders of a production vette. most likely you will get a 450-500hp 6.0L in the Z06. GM is also developing a new "Gen IV" small block. The new V-16 that caddy had had a totaly different structure then a LS1. But nothing is being said about that. ok im done now.. peace

Its kinda the same deal as the 92 camaros. Every single one had the 25th anniversary dash badge, but only the ones with the heritage package got the stripes and rear badge. Only the c5's could be ordered with the 50th anniversary package and they were all the same maroon color.
Okay, to settle the arguments anyway, they did make Z06's with the 50th anniversary badges and they came in different colors as well.
