2 99 Cobras??

Recently There have been these 2 1999 cobras (one red and one Black) raising hell around my campus. Until now I had the fastest car on campus. One of these guys has been talking **** to a friend of mine and just plain acting like a *****. I was wondering how these cars would fair against mine. They have exhuast but I'm not sure what internally. The red car just had a new motor installed (he blew the last one up he says?? Nitrous??). My mods are in the sig. I run roughly mid to high 13's. The last time I had a chance to run the car was a year ago and it ran a 9.1 at 77mph in the 1/8 with a 2.1 60ft and that was with 90 degree temps, a bad intake leak (only 9" of vac) and a bad exhuast leak and car was running at 220. Since this run I've ported and polished the heads and intake, added new valve train, added a tranny cooler, radiator, and fuel pump, 1/2 line, and a bunch more ****.

If you do run mid to high 13s you better hope they are stock. A 1999-2001 Cobra should be easily high 13s to mid 13s and with mods mid to low 13s. If he is spraying he should be easy 12s or 11s! Good luck.

Doubt it. Most likely they are high 13 second cars stock. It takes a few mods to get them near low 13's, mainly gears.

I disagree. 5 speed GTs are high 13 second cars - which I've seen with my own eyes on several occasions, but 99 Cobras were running high 13s before the recall in Montgomery, San Antonio, and Cincinnatti - just three of the tracks that I was around in '00. They were running about 13.5s afterwards. Oh, and FWIW, the 2001 cobras seemed even faster. I've seen them running 13.3s bone-stock, and have heard as low as 13.1s, but haven't actually seen that.

I disagree. I've yet to see a stock 4.6 car in the 13's. But then again a mustang guys stock sometimes includes alot of mods. My buddy's '01 has a fair amount of work done, and he has the trap to go well into the 13's, but a 14.0 is the best he's seen.

Would you consider the silencer being removed as a mod? Because if you do than I have never seen a non modded new car go 13s, because I have never seen one with the silencer. I have seen cars without the silencer go 13.8 and 13.9 on many occasions. With flows (just mufflers, not a catback) and a K&N I have seen a BAD driver run 13.9 @ 100. Maybe the guys near you can't drive but near me that is what they run. Even the GT verts with autos are 14.3-14.5 all day!

You don't get to the track enough. 4.6 cobras have been doing it from the factory for 7 years. If you're just referring to the new 4.6 GT, it just takes a broken-in 5-spd car and a driver that's been to the strip a few times.

Car: 87 Vette 85 TA 82 Z/28
Engine: 3 - 350's 388 400
Transmission: 2-700R4's 1 T56 Setup!
Axle/Gears: 2.59's 3.42's 3.73's
i've ran many 4.6 GT's and haven't lost to one yet in my vette. i'm all stock for now running 14 flat. now these runs were on the street sometimes from a dead start sometimes rolling 65-130mph. i've ran4-5 96-01 Cobra's and they seem to give me a good run usually pretty even or by a half car length either way. i got one at the track with a time slip of 14.20 to my 14.05. the guy had a cage put in it. before you say he can't drive. this guy is always at the track. i'm not sure what the story is on Cobra's and GT's but what i've seen is mid 14's for GT's and low 14.0's to 13.8's for Cobra's. now the 03 Cobra is a different story. 12.9's easy.

Take a look at the post on this site about old cars verse new cars. In it they have a test with a Cobra (1997 I believe) running 13.8 at 101. This was not a professional driver either. The Vette I raced a while ago was a C5 and went a best of 13.8 and then went 14.3, 14.8 and 17.1. Should I use that to base all my Vette track knowledge on?

Actually I get to the track a least a couple times a month. Not sure where you go, but Bradenton doesn't have the best air. Hell, I see alot of LS1's in the high 13's and 14's. As far as the mods thing goes, I've had Mustang guys tell me there car is stock, but sneak a peek under the hood and it's a 351 or they're running a shot of juice. I don't understand why people want to lie about their car like that, I already know what it runs, so tell me what it took ya to get it there. Like I said, I haven't seen a "stock" GT in the 13's.

JAY87GTA, I have never seen a stock LT1 go 13s either, but I will fight to the death that they do. Hell one of the few stock ones I knew was stock went mid 14s!

I can't recall ever catching anyone in a lie that actually opened their hood for me, but maybe that's just because I drive a mustang, too. That said, I do keep my 5.0 stock looking. I like to surprise people, and I prefer to be underrated so that if I lose, it doesn't look bad, and if I don't, it's that much more impressive. I've considered lying to get a race or to keep my modifications unknown, but haven't, yet. If I don't want someone to know, I'll just tell them that it's modified and leave it at that.

I watched a '97 Cobra run 14.67 last Friday night, but, that doesn't mean he could drive it either. I have only seen a STOCK 4.6 break the 13's twice. It was a '99 Cobra and he went 13.89 and 13.91, again not saying it shouldn't be faster, but, that's my personal experience with the 4.6. Of course there was an '03 that went 12.01 w/slicks last Fri. too...whistling all the way down of course...

That's cool 12sMustang, I've never seen one either. I've seen a few of the Cobra's do it, but no GT's. My bud Scott has a 5.0 that runs 11.30's, bone stock on the outside except for the draglites. But everytime we go to the track it's the same thing. I guess it doesn't matter to me, I only run for fun. But alot of guys around here like to run for money on the side road or something. Get the stock thing alot as a consequence.
