Corvette vs lil ol' thirdgen?

I was out cruisin last night for the first time this spring and I am on a long stretch of road just in outskirts of town. No other cars on the dual lane, nice and peaceful when I notice a pair of headlight catch up to me fast. he pulls up beside and I recognize it as a late 80's C4 vette. He drops a gear and lunges...
What?? A vette picking on an old thirdgen? What a bully!
I drop into 2nd and we take off at nearly the same time. Unfortunatly for the vette it was over before it started, from a 70km roll up to 110km I put a quick 3 car lead on him. He let off so I didn't even have to shift.
He turned off soon after.

LOL, yeah I walked a late 80s Vert C4 with my Vortec setup too. He had his girlfriend in the car too, hehe... Pulled 3 to 4 cars on that sucker easy through only one gear I believe (been a long time, back when my tranny wasn't hosed )

jer82z28, where do you think your making peak horsepower with that cam. I'm trying to decide between that one or the xe256 for a 350 tpi build for my 92.

It pulls strong up to 6000, the power really picks up at about 3000, although the engine is very lively at any rpm. I would say the peak is about 5500 rpm.
I am happy with the cam, it idles nice and lots of torque from 1500 up.

it's advertised from 1300-5600 and the 256 is advertised from 1000-5200. didnt know if where you were looking at them listed that or not.

That's the powerband, where it makes power.. not where it makes peak power.

And daddys car? I knew a couple guys in high school with late 80s vettes, and they paid for them themselves because they had jobs.

'yet...' hopefully it holds up for you man, but I've got about as much faith in a T5 behind a torquey motor as I do in an icecube making it on a sidewalk in July...

lame analogy, but you get the point

I like the saying "a snowballs chance in hell" that's a good analogy.

well, supercharged 5.0's around here are still launching on the trusty T5, and they say just not to powershift it, and it'll last.
