Got beat by a nice 5.0

I was out test driving my stock 92 RS today after I just replaced the distributor and there was a pretty nice late fox body stang behind me coming up fast. I knew exactly what he wanted so I gunned it and so did he and suprisingly we stayed dead even from about a 40 roll up to about 80 mph (45 mph speed limit). I was impressed how my little tbi kept with the 5.0 so we messed around a few more times until I turned and he followed suit. As soon as I made the turn I floored it and then I got a nice *** whoopin from the 5.0. He came flying past me like I was standing still, lol. Oh well, it was a nice stang and I was suprised how I was able to hang with him from a 40 roll, but got whooped from about 5 mph up. I know the guy has 3.55 gears, cobra intake, and flowmaster exhaust from talking to people who know him. I think it's time to start modding now

The fox body is a great platform to build a drag car from, especially because it has a dual exhaust, when us third gens can only have single. Aside from that, the firing order in a Stang is better. Instead of going down the block, it goes across the V, back and forth. Those 302s are more comparable to our 350s, not our 305s, unfortunately. Plus, they are about 400 lbs. lighter.

They just don't look half as good

lol, they aren't built to handle as well as the f-bodies, as well. I can't wait to get my IROC back on the road, and whoop some Stang ****!

But the big thing that suprised me was how I was able to hang with him from a 40 roll and then from 5 mph up he raped me, lol. I am definitely sure he was racing both times as well.

Different power curves, different gearing....you'd have to have the specs of both cars to figure out exactly why. Did his have a MT or AT?

It was a manual. The only thing I can think of would be his gearing is better suited for down low and mine with sucky 2.73's are better suited for from a roll.

You might have caught him in a bad gear at a low RPM. It's happened to me before. I'll start off in a certain gear, punch it and then realize i should downshift but by then it's too late and i'm forced to stay in this gear. I've had that happen a few times to me. Then next race we start from a stop and i run through the gears normally and assrape the car next to me.

Was the guy driving it kind of skinny, brown hair, early 20's? (like that doesn't describe 1/2 the guys driving 5.0's around here) I think I might know who it was.
