Ouch, that's not good. My wife had a 93 Escort when we first got together. It wasn't fast by any means, but it wasn't real slow. It was fun to beat on.

Somethings not right there. Ihave a 93 Escort, along with my GTA. And there is no way in HELL that the 93' escort would EVER pull on even a v6 F-body. Hell, even stock base civics can much on escorts. The 1.9L engine only put out 88hp and 110lb/ft.

Escorts were clocked at 0-60 in 12.1 sec, and the 1/4 mile in 21 seconds. If you lost to one of these cars then something is wrong.

I was on the interstate going home one night, I was crusing 75mph when this car began to tail-gate me, I increased to 105 for awhile until my exit was comeing up, I slowed down to get on the exit, the other guy was going strait, I had to see what car it was that stayed with me, It turned out to be a early 80' Ford Tempo....WTF

You still shouldn't have lost to an escort.

Some Tempos cam with a V6 5 speed combo, not a real agressive car but they dont run that bad for beater.

Teal dont feel teribly bad, I lost to my brothers 95 Camaro v6 5 speed from a dead stop on the street (about an 100ft race to the next light) and thats with my truck that runs 11's. Granted I usually run slicks and have poor traction issues (2.5+ 60's) but still it hurts especially since I proved to him how fast it was against a heavy modded mustang a few weeks earyier.

Hey now, I remember back in the days of my 305 CFi I had an older escort pull up next to me and rev and i was thinking to myself, oh man he's toast. The guy put at least 2-3 lengths on my camaro, so in disbelief, my friend in an 02 Rustang GT runs against him and near 60mph, the stang only had half a car length or so ... of course he wouldn't tell us what he had done but according to some guy who knows his brother, the guy had everything in the book that you could do aside from turbo/supercharging it. Boy was I amazed that day ... sometime I need to find him again and give him what he has coming ...

My buddy used to have a 1994 ford escort wagon.It was a 1.9l with a 5 speed.

The head was milled, the head was mildy ported by me.More polished then ported,The intake runners where also.Other than that she was stock.

We suprised alot of people in that car.We had one kid searching for a nitrous line one night.

Talk about some funny stuff. Now we realize how slow an escort is.

When I was 16 in my old car (88 T-Bird 3.8/140hp auto) I got owned my what looked like a 100 year old man (with the wraparound sunglasses and all) in a lil' white escort wagon
I had a car full of people too, probly the most embarrasing race Ive ever been in...but his was a lot newer than '93, probly a 99 or something...he was beeting me, but I was keeping up with him

Escorts? Yeah, their pretty light if you have the base 3 door model. Sadly, the 1990 - 96? didn't have much power. GT's had a bit more, but still not much.

The 1990 to 1996 escorts weight rougly 2,350 to 2,400lbs.
1990 to 1996 Escort tech specs.

1.9L OHC engine had 88hp @ 4,200rpm and 108lb/ft @ 3,300rpm

1.8L DOHC engine had 128hp and 114lb/ft. Dont' know the RPM peak numbers.

So base models had about 26hp per 1 pound. And the GT's had 18.3hp per 1 pound.

Still not near the 13hp per 1 pound that the heavier 350tpi thirdgen F-bodies had.

Here is the review of the 1990 to 1992 F-bodies. They rate the ride quality as a 2, 5 being the highest. They rate the escorts ride better, so they obviously don't know what to look for in a performance vehicle. They also say the top model only weighs 3,200lbs. So take the reviews with a grain of salt.

I've got a buddy that used to have a '90 Mercury Topaz. He used to claim of his four banger: "It's got 85 horses, but a few of them are sick". . That car was sooooooo slow.

Well I used to have an '89 Pontiac Sunbird before my GTA and I could own most escorts, even in a five speed and mine was a five speed 2.0 w/ 110hp, I don't know, has anything been done to the escort?

LOL, Yea the one's with the 4 cyl's were very slow unless they were a HO with a 5 spd, even then they were slow, The V6 with the 5 spd runs mid 15's tops, So yea I guess even the V6's were slow.......
