Raced an S2000 #2

Well my buddy and I were out cruising around last night lookin for the punk in the s2000, well we get lucky and see him after about 1 & 1/2 hrs of lookin, so we finally catch up to him, and I ask if he wants to race, he of course accepts, well I rev to about 1500rpms, he revs also, light turns green and I take him by about a car, then by about 60 he was pulling on me and traffic forced us both to let off, I took him off the line, but I know if we would have kept racing that he would have taken me, I was already in Drive and he was just winding out 1st. But nevertheless, I beat him off the line.

Yea, those things rev really really high, and for a RWD car they are really light. They spin like hell off the line, especially since they make no power below like 3,000rpms. Nice race. I think he would have been by you by 80 though...

I thought they were very heavy. I have always heard that is one of their downfalls. I did here a camaro guy once say that it was a pretty fun car to drive. He said it was stupid slow off the line but pretty fun to rev it to 8 grand.

I think their redline is closer to 10 grand. The thing is to get a good launch you have to atleast be at around 6 grand and clutches dont last long like that. They're about a low 14 second car, same as an LT1.

With rear end gears, and a vtech controller to make that vtec kick in at lower rpm, I'm sure that would fly about anywhere....

I think they already come with some outragous rear end ratio, and vtech controller? the vtech is controlled by oil pressure and I wasn't aware you could controll that. Besides, like I said most people launch in excess of 6k rpm anyways so the vtech is already kicked in. Face it, the S2000 is about the max you can take a NA streetable 4cylinder and it only runs low 14's or high 13's on a great day with great driver. 4 cylinders= :nono:

I always thought they were pretty light; as far as RWD cars go. I just looked it up and it says 2809lbs, way better than I thought. If hey could only make some kind of torque...

Good point. You can get good numbers out of those things but you have to abuse the **** out of it to get any numbers. I know they run LT1 times when driven properly but guys usualy don't have a problem with them on the street. From a dig they are toast. From a roll they hang for about a gear and then get walked hard. I have yet to run one, but cannot wait for the day. in thier defense, 240hp for a four banger is impressive. However, if it came in at 4000rpm and not 5 million I would applaud.

they redline at 9000rpm according to motor trend.....

and your right, clutches arent gonna last long like that, as im sure there isnt much room in there for a huge clutch disc

yeap, the damn things just don't stop revving. Honda had to do that to get that much streetable hp out of a NA 4 cylinder.

very true....my favorite is the yahoos that drive them... you have your old men who just want to buy the honda version of a z3 and have a nice little roadster, those guys are fine.....

i love the guys with the spikey hair with the huge dragon decals on the sides of the car that ice down their intakes between runs and wear designer shoes and pants to the track with pinpoint oxford dress shirts not tucked in

they look like the drug dealers from those cheesy karate movies

Haha, those guys that dress like that at the track are what I would call "stunt japanese." You can buy their cars and dress like them, but you'll always just be a japanese man's stunt double. Speaking of Honda, my dad just bought one of those new Acura MDXs (despite me begging him to buy a Trailblazer or Envoy) and that thing revs like a **** too. It hits almost 7,000 rpms with the V-TECH and thats in an SUV Damn those engines. It gets really bad gas mileage too.

Yea, I have the No Use For A Name cover of that song on my computer. Actually, the engine in the MDX isn't that small. It's the 3.5L V-TECH. And yesterday a bunch of kids in Philly put a telephone wire that was knocked down from the hurricane in the street. When my dad got his front tires over it, they pulled on it and it tore one of the mudflaps off and the rear bumper The car is only 3 weeks old As for the gas mileage, it is only bad if you are on the "hardcore" cam, and knowing my dad, he probably gets a kick out of the revs.

where i come from 3.5L is pretty small hehe.

in this neck of the woods we range from 5.7L to 7.4L

(1 350, (1) 355, (1) 383, (1) 360 (2) 366, (1) 6.0 vortec, and one 454.....

so i suppose its all a matter of perspective

I don't think 3.5L is all that big either, but for a Honda and for V-TECH it is.

They aren't big at all. I am part of a design team here at UD that is changing the way Honda moves around their v6 blocks at thier casting plant in Anna, Ohio. They cast and machine every block they produce there. I currently have two of them (V6 blocks) in my posession and they only weight 75lbs each and you can fit two of them in the back of a pontiac minivan with ease. It is pretty amazing how muich power comes out of something so small. Engines in general that is.
