How to launch on a street race
I have a 90' iroc 350 stock. This means i have non slip traction. (1 tire fire until the other tire eventually comes in). I'm at a light waiting to race whatever. Is it better to (A). Mash the pedal from the start (B). Feather into the launch (C). Brake torque it up to 1500 Rpms or whatever and then launch? I have standard Good year eagle hp 245/50R16's.

If its an auto use one foot on your brake and the other on the gas, it will help your reaction time on the street. I find it best to spin my tires for a few feet so you know you aren't bogging the engine and when you hook then get on the gas. I drive stick so its a little different but I found with a small amount of spin I can take almost anyone out of the hole with my little LO3.

I hold the brake with my left foot and bring the rpms up untill the tires almost start to spin. I dunno exactly what rpms to do it at because my tach is so far off. But you can easily feel when the car is about to launch forward. When the light turns green I roll into the gas, slowly at first and then put it to the floor as soon asI know I will grab traction. This way seems to work best for my setup. It takes alot of practice but you'll get better everytime. The most important thing though is consistency! Just my .02

well obviously it is going to suck launching without posi. I too use my left foot on the break and will bring the rpms up to about 1100 with my right foot.
With racing on the street you have to, HAVE TO, take a couple of launches before racing. On the street you never have the same conditions...

I have a 2.77 Posi rear. I just smash the gas on the street, usually spin for a little bit, then grab hard.

If I spin the tires I lose. It just keeps spining well into 2nd, so I roll into the gas with a quick 1, 2, 3, count. I might brake touque it on a well preped drag strip though.

3.42, posi, Nitto Drag Radials, LCA's and relocators. Rev it to 3500 and dump the clutch
When I was running 15.6's, the car would pull 2.0X 60's. This clutch isn't going to hold up much longer though

If you are in an auto, brake stand to about 1500 RPM than drop the brake. Wait about one second until you are up to about 5-10mph than mash it all the way down or slowly press down right after dropping brake. This method, and I ran better than stock times at the track only by one tenth but still faster than stock. If your at a track you can usually get away with a little more RPM's and still stick good.
