I used to beat the "new" Cobra when it came out with my 96 WS6 Formula. The few times I ran them at the track at least. They would start pulling in a little after the 1/8 but were still a couple cars back at the end.

I would imagine a regular LT1 would be pretty close.

Yeah I just researched it and here is what I found:

1996 Ford Mustang Cobra SVT

Displacement: 4,601cc/280cid
Compression Ratio: 9.85:1
Horsepower: 305 hp @ 5,800 rpm (SAE net)
Torque: 300 lb./ft. @ 4800 rpm
Redline: 6,800 rpm (fuel shutoff at 7,000 rpm)

And 1993 LT1(Camaro Z28):

Horsepower: 275 hp @5000 rpm (SAE net)
Torque: 325 lb./ft. @2400 rpm

So judging by these numbers it will definitely be a close race with the LT1 winning off the line, and the Cobra making it a close race on top.

The average Cobra is a low 14s to high 13s car. What kills these cars is the gearing. They rev like noones business and a set of 4.10s or 4.30s really wakes these cars up! I think bone stock to bone stock the LT1 will pull off the line and might win slightly, but after some simple mods its anyones guess...

Remember the average Mustang driver cant drive, so take that into consideration!

my 100% factory stock 93 Corvette (LT1 w 6speed) trapped 104mph. this was on cheapo street tires and an embarrassing 2.19 60ft. what does a 96' Cobra trap?

BTW- you never mentioned what kind of car the LT1 was in... the power ratings were different depending on which car it came in

Should trap about the same, 102-104 with the right driver...

You will get him off the line because of your ci advantage (more cubes more torque) then he will start pullin ya on the big end prolly past 1/8 mile(less cubes more hp).

All in all the lt1 owns unless he has gears.
