86 rx-7 vs. 90 rs w/ lo5

i have 2 firends, one with the rx7 GXL 5 sp. the other with a 90 rs with a lo5 (350 tbi) swaped in.

the rx7 is pretty much bone stock, he has what he calls a cold air intake, but really, its just an open element.

the rs has a lo5 swaped in, b&M shift kit, K&N open element, an off-the-shelf chip, and a cat-back

they both talk crap to me about the other guys car when they are not around. so i been trying to talk them into racing. my friend with the camaro is all about it. he would race a 10 speed bicycle if one pulled up next to him. my friend that has the rx7 talks alot but hardly ever races, i raced him once and only because his girl was in the car so he couldnt puss out in front of her. he wont even come with me to the track!

so i just wanted some speculation as to who would win, my money is on the camaro.

My money is also on the camaro provided he did everything right when he swapped the 350. I know when I first swapped my 350tbi in a while back and I didnt have all of the necessary coponents(chip, esc module, knock sensor, injectors, etc.) a geo metro would have probably smoke me, well maybe not that bad. Which body style is the Rx7 lst or 2nd gen. Those 1st gens are terribly slow and a 2nd gen non-turbo would probably run in the low 16's.

its an 86, first year for the 2nd gen i believe.

also since my first post ive been doing some research, the 86 gxl (non-turbo) pulled a 16.1 in the quarter, with a wopping 7.9 sec to 60 mph.

if i remember right my firend's camaro was do 15's when it still had the 305. so im thinkin somthing pretty drastic would have to happen for him to lose.

the rx7 is going to get raped
most are in the mid 16 to high 15 range

have seen/heard of a few in the low 15 range and have seen a vid of one pulling a high 14

but those guys are running DR and generally have port jobs or good amount of mods

bye bye bye mr rx7 guy unless the camaro guy can't drive

i doubt that they are even going to race now, the rx7 blew a coolant hose and over heated. and from what ive heard those motors turn to scrap when overheated.

I am going with the Camaro the 350 TBI should be enough to beat an old RX-7, the LO5 had what, like 200hp and 300lbs of toque?

just like a lot of motors
overheat them and they are toast

just depends on how bad and how long you overheat it

but sometimes you get lucky
mine had a leaky waterpump and I tried to keep tabs on the coolant but sometimes couldn't keep up on it and overheated it a few times by mistake but she is all good now and still does ok now that the new waterpump is on

i have the truck LO5 swapped into my car. bored .030 over lt1 cam edelbrock performer tbi intake.. and some other little stuff. the thing moves and i should be lookin at mid 13's so i would put money on the camaro on this one... but like irocaholic said if it's not done right they won't run even with the 305's. the chip is very important in the swap as i have found that out and i have to send my chip back to get fixed so my car stays in open loop all the time. heh!
