raced a thirdgen.... good race almost had him

was sitting there ata light kinda bored just flicking the rpms up and down a little and this thirdgen camaro pulls up next to me kinda sounding a little sick with it's sputter type idle sounded like it was bouncing around a little
I felt sad that someone wouldn't take care of the car a little better then that so it doesn't just sound like it has a big miss
he heard me kinda bouncind the idle a little and gave a little rev back

I heard this little whine and again I became sad the guy can't take care of his car worth a damn at all even make noises like it is whining for help from it's abusive owner

and then the hood... the hood was chopped up to put one of those I'm fast look at me cowl things

so I just sat there wanting to cry for this car feeling it's pain and suffering

but to humor the guy I reved back

so I just sat there holding it at 3500rpms when the light turned green I spun a little looked to my right and didn't see him

looked in front of me and noticed he was pulling like crazy

holy monkey farts just wonder what a car like that would run if the owner actually took care of the thing and got rid of the miss at the idle and put the real hood back on and got rid of that cry the motor makes

I feel sorry for that car still to this day

Crying shame you had to go up against one that was all clapped out. Awhile back, I had some hellacious engine knock (bad fuel) and I avoided any sort of provacative displays of power. Funny, the r!cers seemed to want to mess with me when my engien sounded terrible, too. I didn't oblige them at all - the car is sick, don't break it, y'know? I felt bad for even driving it like that, but hey, burn off the bad fuel and it was all good with a fresh tank of premium!

However, I see that a lot here with some r!cers. One dude had a turbo on his CRX, it was waaaay too big because it took him awhile for any discernable boost to kick his car forward, and when it did finally kick in, big clouds of bluish smoke was shooting out of his sewerpipe exhaust. I got side-by-side with him at a light, and not wanting to be confrontational, I simply asked him how many pounds of boost he was shoving into his poor tortured engine. "Ten pounds, dude!" Right. What sort of terrible things he had done to the internals I couldn't even guess, but he didn't rev at me at least. Maybe he thought I was too chicken to race his oil-burning car with ten (TEN!) pounds of boost. No, just more mature.

Nice looking Nova, Teal91rs.

If I was your neighbor, I would kidnap your lawn-jockey and hold it for ransom.

Because their displacement is about the same. :P

It's the same reason most imports sound the same, they're all around 1.8L.

part of the reason for their sound has to do with the exhuast ports

unlike you piston cars where you have valves to go through and a bend in the head from when it goes up out of the cylinder then hooks out to go into the exhuast manifold the rotary exhuast gasses go STRAIGHT OUT the exhuast port with no valve or anything like that to help change the sound on them

also I'm sure a few other things like the intake and rotating combustion chamber have a bit to do with it but the biggest I'm sure is the exhuast port setup

that and the exhuast port doesn't really every REALLY close in a way

plus the wankle runs at a substantially higher rpm then any pushrod v8, which gives it a higher tone

not really
my redline on the car is only 7k

now there are quite a few push rods that run 7k

now the car I am looking at buying is 8k redline

but even at lower rpms it has a different note or at idle a different note

Not much higher than the older N/A versions. However, the new N/A "Renesis" rotary redlines over 9000rpm. The engine itself can rev almost forever. Some tests have shown in excess of 21,000rpm!!! The limiting factors though are primarily the weak factory ignition in the older cars, which limits high rpm power, and the inability of the accessories to spin that high.

rx7speed - Name just 1 modern production pushrod engine that is capable of 7000rpm continuous use. Other than the LS2, which isn't even out yet, I can't.

I'll be honest and say I can' recall any off the top of my head for factory
but know some are not that far off

isn't the LS1 around 600-6500 already?

but as far as the stock rotary
don't know about the renesis but a stocvk second/third and first gen rx7 21.000 is a little much
generally before that time your eshaft (crankshaft for you boinger folk) would have flexed and caused the rotors to hit the housings and break the apex seals if your eshaft doesn't just flex
then you have stationary gears that prolly would haev been damaged by that point as well and many other problems that could ocome about

nice little problem is the support of the e shaft
there is no middle support
it would be like your piston motor only supported on the outer edges and not in the middel

you can see the problem with that

but there is a rotary style motor where the housings spin around stationary rotors which does have the 20,000 redline like you are talking about but it would be a pain
want to change spark plugs

time to take the motor out

and sorry if the typing is bad I wait about 20 seconds before I can see what I really typed out and it really is a pain

I'm not a big fan of the BCBC school of thought, but true duals are cool... But I won't be doing true duals on mine. I like subtle and if I can manage to stuff all my mods under the stock hood (or stock-looking), so much the better. All I plan on doing is a Stealth Ram anyway (and then some).

Flashy is nice, and chrome is pretty, but chrome don't get you home. I'll stay away from a chromed out anodized engine bay, thank you. If that's for you, so be it, happy motoring!
